What the heck, it's a hybrid "Vase on Monday" collection but I'm sharing them anyway.
Last Friday evening I cut a few Sarracenia stems that had flopped or broken and stuck them in a vase.
Then Andrew came home with Gomphrena haageana (aka Strawberry Fields globe amaranth)
(at least that's what I think it is)
And some Scabiosa atropurpurea 'Black Knight'...
So I mixed them up and made a table centerpiece with the lot of them.
The Gomphrena had me thinking back to our trip last September, into Eastern Oregon, when I took the "In a Vase on Monday" meme on the road.
I bought a couple stems of Gomphrena, in Bend, OR, to use in that vase...
My mind then wandered to Lila, as that was the last trip we were able to take her on. She was such a trooper...ready to go traipsing around with me when I went looking for vase material. She was always ready for an adventure.
She was on my mind still, when on Saturday morning I got a message from Mindy asking if I'd be home that afternoon, as she had something she wanted to drop by. This is that something, she had a painting made of Lila, by the artist Joanne Licardo. My heart is full.

I saw your FB post about the painting. That is just such a thoughtful gesture and especially arriving in the midst of this trajectory of memories.
ReplyDeleteThe timing was interesting for sure.
DeleteWonderful arrangements as always but the standout is Mindy's thoughtful and sweet gift.
ReplyDeleteRight? I am in awe of her thoughtfulness.
DeleteOh, my, did you cry? I would have sobbed. A lovely portrait and gift.
ReplyDeleteYour vase collection looks great. I love 'Black Knight' Scabious - such a rich color.
My eyes got very wet, I dabbed at the corners, I managed to hold it together until I took the painting into the house to show Andrew.
DeleteI like how you used the odds and ends to put together an arrangement. I'm growing some of that Scabiosa from seed this year, there are only a couple of floppy flowers so far, but hopefully next year it will have beefed itself up a bit.
ReplyDeleteThat gift from Mindy was the sweetest thing, I saw your post on Instagram about it.
I grew this Scabiosa last year (from seed) and was so disappointed I vowed to only buy plants int he future (if I saw them, which I haven't)
Deletelovely painting, really captures her soul
ReplyDeleteIndeed it does.
DeleteThat's a wonderful painting!!! Mindy is both thoughtful and enterprising.
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
DeleteWhat a wonderful gift! Mindy really hit it out of the park.
ReplyDeleteI can't get over how much it captures Lila's attitude.
DeleteAll of the flowers are pretty but that Dark Knight is so striking.
ReplyDeleteAwww what a sweet heart felt gift from your friend. Beautifully done.
I wish I could successfully grow Dark Knight from seed. I tried, and failed.
DeleteI love seeing your generosity coming back to you in such a sweet way: yay, Mindy! Oh, and the arrangement of vases is pretty swell.

Thank you Ricki.
DeleteA very sweet gift. Hugs. And your vases are awesome, as always, Loree.
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth. Hope Oreo is doing better.
DeleteI had thought of a few things to say about the vases (the red Gomphrena and black Scabiosa look delicious together), but then the painting of Lila left me speechless and chocked up!
ReplyDeleteMe too Chavliness, me too.
