A Friday vignette, through the window

I recently read the words "we're halfway through summer" and they made my heart very happy. Only halfway! That means there are still many days left to enjoy the garden. Later I happened to glance out of the garage window and catch an interesting view of the back garden. The colors remind me of an old, hand-tinted photograph, however they're the result of a smoky sky, from nearby wildfires.

Hope you get to enjoy time in your garden this weekend, if you're in the PNW it should be much cooler and less smoky.

  1. Love the view thru the garage window! Sorry to hear about your wildfires too. Cooling down here a bit as well -- for now. Sept and Oct usually bring the worst heat for us, but how much hotter can it get anyway...yikes!

  2. I love the view, too! So jungly, in the best way possible.

Here it's been hazy for weeks. Blood-red sun in the morning and evening. My heart goes out to the people living in the fire zones. So much destruction this year.

    1. I feel so pathetic complaining about the smoke. We have been so minimally impacted, compared to what others are going through.

  3. It seems like there are few places this year that are not having serious problems related to climate and weather. But it does make for a nice photo.

    1. But there is no such thing as climate change...remember? Grrrrr.....

  4. That view definitely makes it look like you live in a jungle. You do -- a jungle of your own making. Love it. I'm so sad that the West is yet again dealing with horrific wildfires this year. We've had a touch of smoke up here this summer but not like last year.

    1. I hit a few gardens today (Sunday) before I left Seattle. The photos definitely had that smoky tint to them, even though the sky didn't look smoky. I pray it doesn't get worse.

  5. Sad to say but smoke-tinted views like this may be the norm now. Good thing we gardeners always look for the beauty in it all.

  6. You're right - at first glance, that view looks like lovely vintage bark cloth drapes. Just proves that your garden is amazing from any perspective, smoke or no.

    1. Thank you vbdb, I'm so glad you've been here in person, and do hope you'll be back someday. (I know...you've tried and I've been the one with the difficult schedule)

  7. Great view (not that I'd have expected anything else). I'm sad to say we've got the smoky skies here too.

  8. Never in a million years would I guess it's your garden! How is it possible that this particular angle doesn't resemble anything I saw in your blog?
As soon as I saw this vantage (and vintage) point I thought: Jurassic Park; a T-Rex will come roaring into the frame any second.

    1. It's an angle that one can't normally get, since the garage is in the way. I wish I didn't have issues with height and I'd get up on the roof, that would be a great view!

  9. That beautiful view must make being in your garage a pleasure. Sad as the cause of the smoke is, I like this particular result. As an aside, I saw a comment you posted on Gerhard's page this morning...I still get emails when you post, and I appreciate them, thank you. I was going to add that comment to Gerhard's page, but it wouldn't let me comment without creating a blog account, and/or was going to publish my email address. (?) Ironic that is the end result from privacy law changes. Maybe something weird with the settings? Gerhard, I love your blog, too!

    1. Honestly I just recently cleaned the window, so it's all new to me! And it's more of a "shed" than a garage.

Thanks for the info about the emails!

    1. We shall see. I don't have much hope. As I noted, there is still a lot of summer ahead.

  12. A new view of the Danger Garden! It's fun to find a different perspective. All we need is about 20 minutes of steady rain to wash all this damn smoke away. It's like being back in smoggy 1960's Los Angeles.

    1. 20 minutes is a steep order. I wasn't home on Saturday but we did get a little drizzle. By all reports a whole .01"!

  13. Hello
How can we see the garden please? I looked and there's no address

    1. There is no address because this is a private garden.

  14. I've had no problem getting your emails, either, but Gerhard had gone missing for a long time, then suddenly popped up with a long list of missed posts. This is a great view of your garden. I sure hope the fires end soon - so devastating for so many people.

  15. That is a stunning vignette, albeit sad that it's made possible by the wildfires. Thank you for the reminder that summer is only halfway over. People are so fast to say summer is almost done as soon as August hits. Not so fast, I say! Every day is one to savor. :)

    1. I get so frustrated with the quick curbing to the season. It might be back to school but for the rest of us summer lives on!

  16. This is a wonderful and different view of your garden. The golden light caused by wildfires has always made me feel nostalgic for some reason and I think you've got something in the old hand-tinted photograph colors. I worked in a photo shop for 16 years and learned how to hand tint b&w photos. (Yes,I'm old.) Your view looks like an old postcard from some exotic location like Madeira, Bali or California.

  18. That pic gives your garden a very prehistoric vibe. I was waiting for a dinosaur to stroll by.
