Wednesday Vignette - thinking of my mom...

I snapped this photo while visiting Dancing Oaks Nursery earlier in the month. The glass insulators used as garden art took me back to my childhood and my mother's vast collection. Her's were generally found indoors but I have a vague recollection of some being outdoors...I may have made that up. I haven't seen them for years, I wonder if she got rid of them when they moved or they're boxed up in storage somewhere? Guess I need to call my mom...

Wednesday Vignettes are hosted by Anna at Flutter & Hum. All material © 2009-2016 by Loree Bohl for danger garden. Unauthorized reproduction prohibited and just plain rude.

  1. Fun shot! Yes, it's always a good idea to call your mom! Can't wait to hear what she did with her insulators.

  2. They have incorporated them into some sculptures at DO as well, if I recall correctly. I have quite a few of these stashed away waiting for inspiration to strike (thinking maybe upside down, as hanging candle holders) and the will to do something about it.

    1. Evidently there are quite a few people turning them into light fixtures. I had no idea!

  3. Love the insulators as garden art. They're such an unusual color.

  4. Good view for the vignette! I like those insulators, and have often thought of collecting a few for some type of artsy arrangement. Happy Wednesday!

  6. You got to go to Dancing Oaks...? Lucky you - I admit being a tad bit envious... Those insulators are cool - it looks like they would make the most unusual shot glasses!

    1. I did!!! Any chance you're doing the Salem Study Weekend? There's a trip to DO as part of the itinerary. As for shot glasses that would be funny to see...they have a rounded bottom so you'd have to really be on top of the game.

  7. I may be a wee bit obsessed with insulators. They all make their way to the mantle for Christmas, then I spend at least the next five months trying to figure out homes for all of them again. I've just recently moved some outside. Today, I stuck a few on top of some rusty stakes to use as hose guides. They are one of the coolest "old" things ever.

  8. My dad worked for regional phone company, back when such things existed. He was always bringing them home. I have one somewhere, but wish I had more.
