Wednesday Vignette, lichen fur

I've tried to delete this photo several times, thinking I just did not need to unleash it on the world. Tried. Came so close. But the lichen is just so epic that I found I just wasn't strong enough to push the button. Thus, the world will finally see the lichen fur. Epic lichen fur, on the back of a chair—it kinda gives me the willies. Then again I kind of want to adopt it as a science project, but sadly I don't think the owners would part with it...

  1. It makes me think of a man with a very hairy back. Fascinating and just a little creepy at the same time.

  2. Absolutely thrilled you didn't push the button: "epic" is a perfect word to describe the back of this chair. I wish it was mine.

  3. Honestly? I think it's super cool. I like it. I want it. Who sells it? (Okay, I know it's not sold.) I have old wooden chairs...It could easily grow at my house.

  6. A PNW treasure...i pass lichen forests on my way to work before the trees leaf out and obscure it all.

  9. PS If the chair was mine, I would create a wooden Gnome hat with a bulbous nose at the bottom to attach to the top of the chair. Just sayin'

  10. Oh Kris, you just made me laugh out loud! You're right! Along Highway 30, there is a stretch of woods along some wetlands where all the trees look just like that. Completely covered. It's a very PNW phenomenon, I think. I can't say that I've ever noticed it anywhere else, but maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention.
