I'll share garden photos tomorrow, but in the meantime this is my simple, but fabulous, haul.
Sadly none of the sempervivum were named. I believe the green/lavender one is Sempervivum 'Lilac Time', a favorite that I rarely see for sale. I carried them to my car—parking is in an adjacent field—in a small trash can lid I picked up from a reuse vendor for a buck. It's only 13.5" where as the ones I've planted up with bromeliads and carnivorous plants are closer to 20"...can't wait to figure out what I will do with this one!

Nice variations in color on those Semps. I bet you had Semps on the brain after Denver (I did!) Looking forward to seeing what you do with the little trashcan lid.
ReplyDeleteYes I definitely have had sempervivum on the brain. I've made good on my vow to purchase more every week when I grocery shop, in addition to these and a colorful pair I picked up at Sky when I was up in Seattle. The garden just swallows them up though...
DeleteSempervivum is such a cool plant, and like Sedum, there are so many variations of size and colors... non of which I can name. Occasionally, I'll name a plant for my enjoyment. It could be a lot easier to remember if those two were Fred and Ethel...
ReplyDeleteThe Cracked Pot show sounds like a lot of fun. I wish there was one in Seattle.
Well from now on they are just that. Fred and Ethel. Sadly they were separated though. Fred's in the front garden and Ethel is out back.
DeleteThis reminds me of a time way way back when I was a complete novice gardener and didn't know there were such things as named varieties of plants. I was visiting a garden and the gardener told me (bragged really) that all the plants in the garden were named, and that the Cotinus I was admiring was called Grace. I thought she had named her plants.
DeleteHA! That is a great story Alison.
DeleteGreat plants...looking forward to seeing what you do with the lid : )
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteSempervivum is near the top of my favorite succulent genera but sadly one of the few that doesn't do especially well here. It must like a bit of winter chill - or possibly more rain.
ReplyDeleteWell since they're mostly alpine plants that don't like anything above a Zone 8 I can see why. You can't have ALL the succulents Kris!
DeleteThis isn't meant to be a public comment -just drove by the amazing banana plant garden on SE Steele street and 38th Ave. There is a for sale sign; and the bananas appear to be blooming. Are you familiar with and do you have a post on that garden?
ReplyDeleteSince I have no way to reply to you except here I went ahead and published your comment. You can delete if you like. I haven't ever written about that garden, I didn't know it existed. I'll do a drive by the next time I'm in the area. Thanks!
DeleteNice haul! I meant to go to Cracked Pots this year, but of course it slipped my mind... Darn it... next year! I had no idea they also sold plants. Good to know - I thought it was just up-cycled, artsy stuff.
ReplyDeleteThere's a small plant sale, plants grown by the McMenamins gardeners as well as a few from another nursery.
