SW Portland garden pest infestation...

Word got out early, via Instagram, that one of the gardens on the Saturday line-up of Study Weekend garden tours was experiencing an infestation of parasites.

No, not a gnome infestation...

Nor was it a monster infestation...

Although there were plenty of them to be seen.

They were in all shapes and sizes...

No, this infestation was in the bromeliads! Well, it was still early, it was just in this one bromeliad so far...

But these guys look like they could rapidly spread.

Despite the fact they have no legs.

(oh the horror!)

Thanks to garden co-owner Craig Quirk (@dogmd on Instagram) for the fun...

  1. Those look custom-made for bromeliads! Tell Gerhard to check his growing collection closely... you never know when the pests might arrive.

  4. Heavens, what does one spray to thwart such an infestation? I'm thinking that ladybugs are no match for these super bugs.

    1. 1) buy bottle of champagne
      2) shake bottle violently
      3) open bottle while aiming at pests
      4) drink what remains in bottle

  6. It wasn't that long ago when I had my own finger monster collection. It was stellar, but I decided they should be passed on when we downsized as we left Denver. Unless... I have forgotten they should be saved since they are lightweights? Storage arrives in Tucson this week! It will be like Christmas since I have forgotten what all we stored 2 years ago!

    1. What fun! Here's hoping the monsters survived the purge.

  7. They're quite cute. Are you sure none hitch-hiked home with you though?

    1. Pretty sure. I mean I didn't do a tick thorough search, but I looked in my pockets and handbag...
