The Nest, at Flicker Farm

I've got just one last post from my June visit to Flicker Farm, on Sauvie Island. Today I give you—The Nest, a work in progress...

This is just the kind of thing I imagine having fun with, if I had the wild space to do so.

The construction methods are simple, but sturdy.

All I'd need are a couple of pillows and a glass if wine and I could spend an afternoon right here.

  1. Now, that looks like fun! Yes, big fluffy pillows and a book in there would suit me just fine.

  2. I love that it is work in progress, waiting on twigs and branches to become available, as nature hands them over. That could take a few years and make for a wonderful journey. If only you took a selfi sitting in it I would get a better sense of it's size.

    1. Ha! I never think of selfies, but that would have been a good idea.

  3. Could turn the finished product into a Hugocultur. Add some soil and mulch and plant it up then it could be a hidden sanctuary. Lots of fun and a great way to use prunings.

  4. Cool idea -- Who doesn't like making forts? But I hope you also like spiders, because those twig walls look like prime web zones. :)

  5. What a neat idea. It immediately had me wondering where I could put something like that. I thought about my half-wild back slope - and then the fire ants came to mind. So much for that!

  6. Brilliant idea. I am guessing as gardeners they are OK with bugs and critters that may join them in this little retreat.

  7. The stone is a nice contrast with the woven branches and green tangle of grass, but here in wildfire country the Fire Authority would send a notice to clear it. Climate matters...

    1. Ah the advantages of being on an island surrounded by water and with a low water table too...
