Back when I visited Cracked Pots at Edgefield I passed on a great rusty metal planter from Indio Metal Arts. Evidently my resolve to "be careful I don't add so much visual clutter you are no longer able to see the plants, for the containers" can be thrown right around the window when that cool container is only $2...
Yes, I purchased the tall rusty tube on the left (above) for just $2, it stands upright no matter what I put in it (and I've tried a few things) thanks to this nifty little base.
I decided for now I'd fill it with the drying Eryngium agavifolium blooms that were flopping all over the place, but I wasn't ready to yet get rid of.
Even brown they're still cool,
Now about that out of control Grevillea juniperina ‘Molonglo’ on the left, time to get out the pruners...
Weather Diary, Sept 4: Hi 84, Low 52/ Precip 0
The stats are in, if you're interested in such things, and June/July/August will go down as the 2nd hottest summer on record here in Portland. The period of May through August '18 is the driest we've ever experienced.

That is a cool new container, and slim enough that it doesn't make the area look cluttered.
ReplyDeleteThe height and slimness definitely let's it slip right in and not call too much attention to itself.
DeleteLove Rattlesnake Master! I wonder if there is anywhere in the country that has set any kind of good weather records this year?! It has started raining again this morning, pretty hard. Some schools (not in Madison) are closed until next week as the roads are impassable for buses to get to the kids. It feels very apocalyptic here. This is enough rain that I think the other side of town from me is going to have serious flooding.
ReplyDeleteRattlesnake Master actually refers to Eryngium yuccifolium, which I love too, but have less success with than Eryngium agavifolium. More rain!? I saw Beth's posts on FB, how horrible, and you ask a very good question.
DeleteI thought the tube was bigger at first and was going to say you could grow a Welwitschia in it. Well, maybe you could still put a teeny baby one in it! Assuming of course you could find one. Hmm, maybe something more obtainable...
ReplyDeleteSomething more obtainable does seem the way to go, but if you happen to find one I'd love to try!
Deletethat grouping of pots was not complete without the 'new' rusty piece! will it be a planter or a vase?
ReplyDeleteMaybe both?
DeleteRusty container = ♥ ♥ ♥
ReplyDelete;)
DeleteThat's a really fun new container. Do you think there's enough space for soil that you could grow something in it, or is it more of a vase?
ReplyDeleteOh definitely room for soil, as long as the plant in question doesn't mind sending roots downwards.
DeleteYou had me at "rusty". :) That is WAY cool and only $2, I would have gotten it too. It would look good with Allium schubertii seed heads too I bet.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Unfortunately Allium hate me.
DeleteAt only two dollars, it really needed to be bought! Besides, when you have so much visual clutter that you can't appreciate the plants, you can just pile more plants on top of the visual clutter and boom, problem solved. Love your new container & what you've done with it!
ReplyDeleteA $2 price tag is equivalent to giving it away - how could you pass that up? Heck, you could use it as a vase in the house too.
ReplyDeleteTall and substantial enough to stay upright -- a lot of gardeners could make use of that for seedhead stalks etc. Great find.
ReplyDeleteHa! It's so hard to resist, right? Especially if the price is right. And the arrangement looks great.
ReplyDelete2 bucks ? They must have only had one, otherwise I'm sure you would have invested in a few.
ReplyDeleteOooh - that's a great find! And, I like what you did with it too!
