A visit to the new location of Digs, Inside and Out

I used to be rather spoiled. Digs, Inside & Out was located just 5 minutes from my house. I could stop by whenever the mood hit, plus their amazing twice yearly "one day only" half-off sales were easy to just drop in on. But all that changed when they moved (rent increase inspired) to the Sellwood neighborhood...

The new location is certainly full of charm...

However since it's now 25 minutes away, and in a direction I rarely travel, my visits will have to be planned rather than spur of the moment.

The area is home to several antique malls and great restaurants, so it does work as a fun destination.

And the shop is clearly still as inspired as it ever was.

Trypophobia!

Those rusty fern fronds called out...

And this one came home with me.

If I were the apron wearing type...

I'm so glad I finally made it in! If you're curious you can find all this goodness at 8301 SE 13th Ave...

  1. I would be so bummed to have a great shop like that move so much further away. Rent increases is a huge issue here causing a number of local stores to close and be replaced with chains. Plus lots of owners are retiring and not as many young people seem to want to shop in a brick and mortar store, let alone be the owner.

    1. This store was one of the early ones on a street that has gentrified significantly. It's too bad the owners of the building couldn't compromise to keep them in place.

  2. Is the new store any bigger? The old place seemed cramped and tiny, or maybe it was just that it was stuffed with stuff.

    1. I remember when the old store (prior to 2012) was half the size it was in recent years. You want to talk cramped! The square footage of the new store might be a little bigger, but it definitely feels larger because of the windows and high ceilings.

  4. Looks as wonderful as ever but I also loved the previous location as the funk of Alberta Street seemed perfect for Digs!

    1. Right? They added a lot to the street's character too.

  5. It looks like a place I would want far from me due to the fact I would probably regularly add to their coffers.

  7. We've biked past there a few times...I thought maybe they were just doing a SE location, in addition to the NE one.

  8. Is it better for your pocketbook that it's further away? I know I could get in trouble fast in a store like that.

    1. I suppose that's putting a positive spin on it.

  9. But luckily for me, it is an easy bike ride from my house now:). Bought some lovelies at the half off sale the other day. So nice to have them in the neighborhood - that location deserves a lively and hip/cool tenant.

  10. I could get into a lot of trouble in that store, so many treasures! The rusted palm fronds are definitely excellent, but the doll lamps in the same shot are calling my name!

    1. The doll lamps are store fixtures, good luck talking her out of those!
