Bella Madrona (here and here) is a magical garden that looms large in my memory. I was able to spend a few hours there last weekend, but only managed a handful of photos, most of which I've shared on Instagram. This one however, I thought would make a great Wednesday Vignette. It's all about the bottles...

Oh Yeah, great shot! Maybe some day I'll finally make it to Bella Madrona, to check out all the cool things they've done there with bottles. I wanted to come to that Pacific Horticulture event, but not in this heat.
ReplyDeleteThe day of the event was actually quite lovely, or at least it felt lovely because the temperatures were not over 100...
DeleteSuch an amazing garden to experience. Great shot of the bottle paving! Like Alison, I would have the P.H. event had it not been for the heat!
ReplyDeleteWhimp! ;)
Delete99 bottles of beer on the wall is a song that came to mind when I saw this picture.
ReplyDeleteI wander what it's like to step on a glass path. Do you find yourself walking gingerly with fear of breaking it?
Not at all, but if I were wearing stilettos I might have been more concerned. But then again who would wear pointy heels to a garden party?
DeleteNicely done. I tried glass bottles as edging in my old garden and, come to think of it, that might be useful on the back slope here...
ReplyDeleteNow you just need a friend who owns a restaurant.
DeleteOur art gallery has clear glass steps which I find disorienting. Are the bottles filled with sand or something or is that just my eyes. They call the attention away from the garden to me.
ReplyDeleteI think what you're seeing is the soil (or sand) around the bottles. And since this garden is huge (5 acres) the bottles are only grabbing attention in one small part of it.
DeleteI hope they had as much fun creating the paving as they did emptying their building supplies!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun in this garden. But you were there for the Fling's closing event, weren't you?
DeleteThat's a lot of beverage enjoyment there. Thirsty gardeners?
ReplyDeleteA good lesson in garden design: some clear architectural lines in a clipped shrub, an Agave, the metal pieces, the glass, some negative (empty) space, and some lush plants. The virtue of empty space to rest the eye becomes apparent.
Lots of parties in the garden back in the day. That was probably just a couple of months events...
DeleteRecycling never looked so good.
