So there's this vintage shop on N. Killingsworth Street that I drive by all the time. Finally, after 2+ years, the stars aligned and I stopped to check them out. Guess what? I was there within their normal business hours but they were closed. Turns out there was a vintage "market" going on across town, and they had a booth there. Damn. In my perfect world I would have got back in the car and gone to the market. However since I had to be home in less than a half hour that wasn't possible. Making lemonade out of lemons, I walked across the street to ReClaim It! I visited this place once years ago, right after they opened. Truth be told I didn't really remember much about that visit, so my expectations were low. That's why I didn't take a photo of the building, and instead I'm sharing a screen shot from Google maps...
And here's what I came home with, yes, for $23...(OMG)...was I lucky I stopped in there!
My visit was just a quick walk through, but at the prices they put on things I just picked up almost everything that caught my eye, like this deep ladle...
Which I thought might look good bent over one of the tall shady cylinder planters. Nope. Don't like it.
This is better. I had to bend it again (one or two more times and it's gonna break) but I think I like it here...
Sweet! ($3)
This tile piece looks like it might be the bit cut out for an exhaust fan in a kitchen remodel?
I had just planted up a fern in a piece of repurposed metal (from the ReBuilding Center), and knew it might need something to catch drips. Problem solved! ($2)...
The tall metal square has so many possibilities...
Especially since it has this handy nail hole, should I want to hang it.
For now it's tucked under a formerly hanging Tillandsia orb, which over the winter ceased to be a perfect circle and didn't look good hanging any longer...($3)...
I have to admit this can, well my heart might have just jumped out of my chest when I saw it. I was afraid there wouldn't be a price tag on it — you know, the NFS great store fixtures tend to be labeled with?
Bumps and bruises were plentiful, but I couldn't help but see shades of the vintage zinc barrel that I'd had a crush on for years and years (here, here, here and here). I know, those were some amazing rose-colored glasses! But instead of a price tag of over $100 this one was only $15. Ya. $15...
And it was intact!
No doubt I'll find its ultimate purpose soon, but in the meantime was called into action as the base of a refreshments table for a recent tour group that came through my garden.

Great purchases! On the pic with your red table, galvanised round can in front, on top right a prickly spike plant, what's the name? I bought one for 50p but I had no name! Is it an aloe?
ReplyDeleteThat's a Haworthia, I'm not organized (or smart) enough to tell you which one it is...
DeleteGreat finds! What serendipity.
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteWhat great purchases. I love all the metal in your garden and different sources ways you have re-purposed them. The ladle is so cool.
ReplyDeleteCool stuff and fantastic prices. I'm impressed that you found uses immediately for each piece. You're the bomb.
ReplyDeleteSuper cool finds! I like the ladle in both places. The tile... that took imagination! I have a thing for zinc/galvanized metal too. You scored big time!!!
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome finds. I think I like the garbage can and the ladle best. You did well in re-purposing them. Congratulations and I hope you go back!
ReplyDeleteNice finds -- although the zinc garbage can brings back memories of having to lug those to the street every week... :)
ReplyDeleteReClaim, ReBuild... you have the best places to check out, plus you consistently find unexpected treasures. Portland has it all when you have the eye for cool!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your great finds! I love what you did with them.
ReplyDeleteI continue to be in awe of your creativity. I wouldn't know what to do with half of these things even though I love the look.
ReplyDeleteFunny ...I just bought a new galvanized trash can ,thinking I would fill it with water so I could dip my watering cans in rather than filing with the hose . Nice idea , but the can leaks at the seems ...boo .
ReplyDeleteI like yours better !
thanks for teaching me what to look for in a vintage trash can. the design is more crisp and pleasing than a new one. the handles are also much lower. i recently was gifted a newer used can, but i was not fussy for free. looking forward to painting mine.
ReplyDeleteOh, the noise of those cans when the garbage guys emptied them! Looks great as a table. Now you just need a gray granite circle to make a permanent table.
ReplyDeleteShopping with you must be an experience - you see the promise in things that I'm afraid my eye would just pass over. Your use of that metal ladle is genius!
ReplyDeleteLove your finds and boy do I wish you would accessorize my garden.
ReplyDeleteLucky finds! I love all that galvanized metal.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great eye for what will look good with what and where.
ReplyDeleteI love finding treasures like that. So much so that I'm not allowed to go shopping at Goodwill without a chaperone anymore. :)
ReplyDeleteDrive-by shopping. Just think what you could accomplish with more time.
ReplyDeleteGood shopping work. The tillandsia holder-ladle is an excellent example of clever repurposing.
ReplyDeleteClever use of the ladle.
ReplyDeleteThat old trash can is exactly like the ones I remember we had when I was young, we had 4, one for trash with a lid and 3 for garden waste. Back in the day the garbage man came into the back yard to pick it up and dump into his bin.
ReplyDeleteLoree, I swear I've seen those same trash cans for $100 recently -- well done! And I love what looks like your encaustic tile trivet too.
ReplyDeleteWonderfully resourceful, Loree. Love that barrel!
ReplyDeleteSerendipity strikes again! You are a regular lightning rod.
