One week left to get your OC&K Challenge entry in!
Next Sunday, Nov 1st is the deadline...you've got a week to be creative and get your Ornamental Cabbage and Kale Challenge entry in to me (email an image to: spiky plants at gmail dot com). In the mean time let's all drool over an arrangement done by one of the judges, Nathan Limprecht. I love how the Sedum nussbaumerianum and container color work together and at the same time sort of tone down the potentially bright ivory center of the kale (or are those cabbage?). Also I wonder, are those two different kinds of Senecio?

I have that Senecio tropeoifolius crossed off (Dead) in my plant list …from Cistus :(

DeleteThis has been so fun to observe! I'm going to watch transfixed from the sidelines this time. I love these arrangements! And Kale and Cabbage often look wonderful in outdoor arrangements right through December--even here in the brutal north country. ;-)

DeleteLove this arrangement as it made me look differently at the possibilities of combining kale/cabbage with succulents! Thanks for this challenge, it's been a great deal of fun.

DeleteI did finally find some ornamental cabbage in my local garden center - just one variety and it didn't inspire me. I was thinking of a succulent combination but your judge beat me to it - and did a better job than I probably could have.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about not being inspired by what you saw. I couple of nurseries I visited seemed to only be interested in the really frilly cut leaf varieties, which I couldn't get inspired by.
DeleteIt might come right down to the wire for me. I'm still having trouble getting inspired. This picture helps a lot, though.

DeleteGlorious! I tried, but I failed. Still, this challenge has given me a new appreciation for these much maligned Autumn staples.
