Halloween is the carefree, act like we're all kids again, holiday. How can you not enjoy that?
And to celebrate naturally I had to send the Ornamental Cabbage and Kale Challenge out on a high note...remember tomorrow is the deadline to send in your entry photo! (spiky plants at gmail dot com)
Colorful leaves scavenged from nearby trees...
Accent the purples...
...and greens of the OC&K just right...
Upon bringing it all inside though I realized some light was needed, hence a few Lunaria seed pods were added.
This is a new vintage addition this year. I just now realized we should have named him, but haven't.
I adore the fact he sits atop a tuft of pleated crepe paper.
May you all have a thrilling Halloween!

This is a lovely Halloween display. The leaves, seed pods, and cabbage are a surprisingly perfect combo. And I LOVE that little black cat decoration.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We were pretty thrilled to find that cat, what I wouldn't give to have the great decorations that I grew up with...
DeleteBeautiful! The lunaria pods were a nice touch!
ReplyDelete(What, no bathroom studio shot?) :)
Nope, this arrangement was too big for that!
DeleteHappy Halloween! I adore that arrangement in the white vase, and the black cat decoration.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alison - our adoration is mutual as I can't get enough of your agave and skull creation.
DeleteGorgeous! The maple leaves are fantastic and the cabbage is just the right color contrast. You know you can take the papery coverings and the seeds off the money plant and it will be more shimmery.
ReplyDeleteYes...but then you loose the dots of the seeds, and I kind of like them.
DeleteNot only are you a great garden designer, but also a great floral designer!
ReplyDeleteJohn(Aberdeen)
Ha...thanks John, I'm not sure I deserve it, but I appreciate it!
DeleteI so admire people who can whip up a display like that. I just don't have that vision. Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gerhard, I hope you guys had a good one.
DeleteDon't know if you remember it, but have you taken a second glance at the discussion about those masks from last year?
ReplyDeleteHow could I forget?
DeleteThe only mask that is shown in this post is of a bear and I do not know how anyone could find that offensive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950s-LUMINOUS-MASKLITE-DIECUT-CARDBOARD-Bear-MASK-Cosmic-Artifacts-Estate-/121786385383?hash=item1c5b08c3e7:g:dt8AAOSwDFNWE0FH
The entire display is stunning! And that taller white vase has the most gorgeous lines. Is it vintage?
ReplyDeleteThanks jdub, yes it is...I've been collecting for years.
DeleteHappy Halloween, Loree! Wow, I can't believe those leaves are real--the colors are so vibrant! Your arrangement looks stunning on the mantle.
ReplyDeleteAren't they insane? I expected them to fade but they're just staying that super vibrant.
DeleteI'm obsessed with white pottery like that. What was your address again? ;)
ReplyDeleteHa! Do you have a collection? I culled a few colorful ones when we moved to Oregon (my husband doesn't understand the obsession) but have kept all the creamy white.
DeleteNice! I love the expression on your cat's face, he's great.
ReplyDeleteThe Halloween kitty is so charming--the vintage stuff has charm in spades--here you drive by houses decorated for Halloween and it is mannequins with fake blood and knives sticking out of them--when did we decide to abandon charm? sigh.
ReplyDeleteYour mantle looks so gorgeous--your styling gets better and better!
You did a wonderful job of decorating for the holiday and of promoting the OC&K challenge. I wish I'd been able to come up with a cabbage creation worthy of the competition. Next year!
ReplyDeleteThose leaves are gorgeous. I think that one of those would be the perfect treat but little hobgoblins might disagree. This post is treat enough for me.
ReplyDeleteFab arrangement, it's the embodiment of autumn! Love the whole mantle arrangement & your cute new feline addition!
