My Dracunculus vulgaris (Dragon Lily) is blooming! I might have missed it if not for the fact that Lila was VERY interested in the smell of rotting meat coming from the corner of the garden.
I went to investigate what she was so drawn to (fearing the worse) and instead found this beautiful, if olfactorily disgusting bloom.
The bloom is pretty. I would call it even dramatic. As for its smell, it's a good thing they haven't invented the computer which is able to transfer smells, yet!
Hi Loree, I haven't grown this amazing plant but from what I've heard about it's offensive olfactory propensity, it should come with a bottle of Febreeze.
That is a very special bloom. Lila looks pretty proud of her find.
ReplyDeletePretty cool! I love the name, and it does have a dragonish look to it.

ReplyDeleteHa! I'm glad I can enjoy it in pictures, and not for it's aroma! What a striking bloom!
ReplyDeleteWickedly nice!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bloom
ReplyDeleteVery cool! But, I think Lila steals the show. Just kidding. She's such a cutie...
ReplyDeleteCoolness!!!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the shot of your Lila smelling and staring at the lily. Wow, what a find for her! Beautiful plant. I can't imagine the smell.
