Poor old chain link. So déclassé. One day, when we've ripped it all out, I'm sure it'll make a come-back. I still have one, disguised by an enthusiastic clematis.
I am so THERE about chain link! I like to think we've smartened ours up a bit with its black paint, but it is still, well,...chain link. However, summer is doing its best to help cover it up with all the viney, crawly, rambling and just plain BIG things we've planted near it. Maybe in several years it will be pretty much covered.
Helen, a clematis sounds like a great idea. Jane, ok here is where I confess that I have a chain link fence gate going into our backyard. And we put it in. We had to enclose the space when we decided to get a dog and I wanted a gate I could see through (not wood) since that view of the yard is all I see some mornings on my way out. I still have hope that someday we'll be able to afford an designer model, more along the lines of yesterdays tomato cage design. Until then I cringe. Black paint was a smart idea!
Wow! very good use of those not so nice looking chain link fence ;-) Fantastic idea to have wine grapes grown all over. When the grapes ripens, the fruits will surely make the bushes lovelier and put to good use (make wine!).
Maybe that's what we should do about the chain link between us and the school yard...hmmm :) I'm sure you'd be in danger garden heaven here in Maui! Everything is a little bit alien, or reminiscent of something in Portland, but on volcanic soil steroids!
I am working on disguising my chain link with various vines. I have so much to cover. I think I'll let the akebia take over, it covers well too. I had a grape vine when I moved in, until I learned that grapes are poisonous to dogs, so out it went. It's too bad though, they are beautiful vigorous vines. That one has done a good job covering completely.
Stephanie, I'm thinking about accidentally taste testing them in a few weeks!A&M, you better be taking lots of pictures! I am so jealous....Megan, this is so true about the doggies - I hadn't thought about that. I'll have to watch Lila when we walk that way in the future.
hey I would like taste them also! Grapes are my favourite!
I was thinking of putting in table grapes to replace my aphid-ravaged honeysuckle. Hm, but I have a nice fence/trellis, so maybe I don't want to cover it up so much! Previous owner was a good carpenter, unlike me.
