I returned home from a couple of days away and discovered one of my Cylindropuntia was blooming! This is the first ever occurrence here...and gosh, the flowers aren't very showy. Nothing like my other cactus flowers...this is as much as they opened! Oh well. They may not be "party worthy" but I love them...

Mine has been on the verge for some time. Mine went thru 60" of rain without a hitch. TOUGH.
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteI wonder if the flowers would open more in hotter, drier conditions?
ReplyDeleteMaybe, although really during the time they were trying to open it was dry in the mid 80's...
DeleteWow, that's wonderful color! You must be having a very sunny summer with all these blooms. Ahead of mine which have not bloomed in the five years since I planted them.
ReplyDeleteI've got 4 or 5 of them and none have ever bloomed. This one isn't even in optimal placement...crazy...
DeleteWell, maybe a small soiree.
ReplyDeleteMe and Andrew?
DeleteI thought it was a peony at first, lovely!
ReplyDeleteYes, that's it!
DeleteLove that color!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great color. That's your second cactus-surprise this year, right?
ReplyDeleteIt is! Sadly they say July is going to be cool. This may be the last surprise of the season...
DeleteThat is awesome!!!! Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteSurprises from "old" plants are the best!
ReplyDeleteIt's always sweet when cacti bloom! Just goes to show that even the prickliest characters have a soft side.
ReplyDeleteYes they do...
DeleteMaybe it's just biding its time until we have some heat spike? I imagine that perhaps the humane temperatures we've been having is not to its liking?
ReplyDeleteIt was mid 80's when it bloomed, surely that was okay with it?
