Wednesday Vignette - new Agaves in the 'hood!

I took advantage of a (mostly) dry hour and went for a walk. Headed home I spotted a new planting at McMenamins Kennedy School. A fine mist in the air made everything appear sort of fuzzy, an illusion accentuated by the Pink Muhly Grass.

Blues, greens, reds, and spiky plants! A great garden vignette - visit Flutter & Hum for links to other bloggers sharing vignettes today...

  1. Agaves in the Hood, the much anticipated new feature by acclaimed Portland maven Loree Bohl :-).

  2. That blue evergreen planted next to the berberis(?) is a great combination/backdrop for the blue agave/pink muhly grass. You're lucky to have this garden so close to your house!

  3. And the blue tones of the agave pick up that of the blue shrub (cypress?) too.

  4. Fun for you having that garden so close by. Love that blue conifer. Reading in the news Portland is having some terrible weather--too much rain, homes flooded. Hope it dries out for your Fair City soon.

    1. It's pretty wet here, lots of rivers/creeks exceeding their boundaries and flooding, landslides, trees down. I think we've got a couple more days of it too, before it finally stops.

  5. Oooo, yes! Great vignette. I always enjoy the smoky Muhly Grass. It's not hardy in my zone, but Purple Love Grass is. Love them both!

  6. Love the blue with the Pink muhle grass! What is that other bluish thing - front and center, slightly to the left, in front of the agaves?

    1. It is either some sort of Erysimum, or a Matthiola fruticulosa. I'm not smart enough to know which!

  7. Sounds like your December rains are going to be our Bay Area January situation if the El Niño forecast models come to pass. I'd be worried about how many plants are going to want to rot out, while others will no doubt love it. Wishing you some sunny respites between the deluges.

  8. I love that planting! I need to explore this garden. So far, I've only driven by after visiting you.
