Poinsettias got their name from Joel Roberts Poinsett, the man who introduced them to the US in 1828, and Poinsettia Day commemorates the death of Poinsett on December 12, 1851 (source).
While clicking away, looking for information on International Poinsettia Day, I ran across a photo collection from The Telegraph entitled Inspirational poinsettia arrangements for Christmas. ReplyDeleteCheapster that I am, I picked up a four-pack of grocery-store red ones at Costco. Whoa, at this rate any arrangement I make will probably wind up looking like something out of Robert Earl Keen's 'Merry Christmas from the Family.' (Love that vid.) Have them lined up at the front window with some cactus that I brought in from the cold. Hmmm, poinsettias and cactus...
