I’ve driven past them a million times, straining to see exactly what they’re all about in the 30 seconds before the light changes and I turn the corner.
But today was different; today I stopped to have a look-see…
Simple, straightforward construction, and I like the accent paint color on the front of the boxes.
The plants are alive, but not thriving. It must be hot up there on the west side of a brick building.
Only one of the three trellises has something growing on it.
Which provided an easy opportunity to see just how they went together.
I think this box was designed as a terrarium of sort.
But this version is my favorite, with plantings coming out the front and the top!
The black tube you’ve seen winding through each box has to be the irrigation. I meant to follow it around the side of the building to see where it connected, but I forgot. I guess it’s good to leave a little exploring for next time.
Very eye catching!
ReplyDeleteSince they'd been catching my eye for awhile I'm glad I finally stopped!
DeleteI like the look, too, but there's so little soil, they really need to water them more. Maybe you can drop a hint the next time you're there... :-).
ReplyDeleteThey don't need to be watered -- they have irrigation! (One reason I don't like irrigation systems: you tend to think they are "set and forget", when really they need to be checked quite often, especially if conditions change.)
DeleteThey could use some more impressive plants there, but I too like the painted frame look.
I meant they need to tweak the irrigation times. It looks like the system doesn't run often or long enough :-).
DeleteI agree with you guys...and the plant selection could definitely use a little tweaking. It looks to me like the irrigation wasn't the only thing that was "set and forget"...
DeleteI recon this here'd be a right proper place to grow somma them heat-lovin' dangerous kinda plants.
ReplyDeleteYes indeedy! Maybe someone should do a little spiky guerrilla gardening...
DeleteLove the boxes. I have a similiar set up. Water the top and the bottom planters get watered as well:)
ReplyDeleteSneaky!
DeleteThe plant choices, meh. The boxes themselves, cool. This might be a case of set it and forget it. They need a gardener on staff. :)
ReplyDeleteSo true...I wonder if the person who built it has left the staff?
DeleteAhh...I remember seeing those after they had installed them...but they hadn't been planted yet...I did wonder how plants would fare in such exposed conditions.
ReplyDeleteNot so well evidently.
DeleteGood concept.
ReplyDeleteYes sir.
DeleteOh those are fun! I like!
ReplyDeleteMe too!
Deletewhat a brilliant and inspirational idea, i'd had similar ideas to this, but this way works much better, definitely going to have to make some of these
