Meet 'Blue Pacific' Shore Juniper, a recent plant acquisition I hadn’t gotten around to sharing…
I know! Not spiky…not dangerous…
And you thought I lost my edge when
I bought a rose! At least the rose has thorns; there is nothing dangerous about this plant. So what gives? I don’t know for sure. Maybe it’s the colors….blue/green needles with silver-ish undersides, and the beautiful color of the stems. Plus the fact that it’s a prostrate grower (fast too, according to the tag) and evergreen.
I saw it at City People’s in Seattle during the same trip when I bought the
bargain agave, and had to have it. What is the world coming too? Just stop me if I start buying pansies okay?

Get out of here, I bought four Blue Pacific Junipers just a couple of weeks ago. They are being planted on a slope in our yard that is hard to mow and or weed eat...I love them! I'll send you a pansy or two if you like, lol.

ReplyDeleteWhere are you going to plant this one? I'm always on the lookout for structural plants to goon the top of my retaining wall.
It has a bit of a spiky-ness to it. I can see why it was irresistible.
ReplyDeleteIt looks a bit spiky - maybe you could wrap barbed wire round an overhanging limb - just to catch out the unwary

ReplyDeleteRyan, good idea! (except I hate gin, nasty stuff!). I think this guy will be going in an area I've never really photographed much. The north side of the house...towards the front where there is still some sun. We have a drop-off that is shored up with those lame interlocking concrete blocks and I would love to hide them. Oh and I spotted more at the Stack street Portland Nursery yesterday.

This is my all time favourite Juniper. Saw it cascading 6' down a tall retaining wall and have loved it since!

ReplyDeleteNot known to be a fast grower here central Cda but perfect for our shoreline earth pile for it's roots structure little maintenance aside from soil moisture til established...thanks for the pics and their exciting prospects!
ReplyDeleteI bought a blue pacific juniper about 2 weeks ago and turned in into a Bonsai tree. Absolutely beautiful. Very easy to work with and there are plenty of growth to come in many shapes
