Free days at the Lan Su Garden

Have you always meant to visit the Lan Su Garden Chinese Garden here in Portland? Well the next eight days provide the perfect opportunity as there is no admission charge from today through January 9th. Of course maybe while visiting you’ll fall in love and become a member! From their website: “The garden shop expands into a garden pavilion to offer a dazzling display of Chinese New Year items in preparation for the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit on February 3. We hope everyone in the community can find one day out of the eight to hop on down! Lan Su is open every day 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can also escape the cold with tea in the cozy teahouse, which keeps garden hours and does not require reservations.”

I’ve only visited in the summertime so I’m looking forward to seeing what the garden has to offer in the winter. Chances are I’ll have to take a few pictures (the one above is from their website).

  1. I'm a member and I try and visit at least once a week (I work only a few blocks away). Every time I go I see something new and the gardening staff is very friendly and knowledgable. The garden doesn't just feature classical garden plants of China, if you like Hinkley's books, you'll see many of those plants here.

If any local plant geeks want to meet here for lunch on a weekday I'm always up for a visit.

  2. I love Lan Su. It was an immediate membership for me when they opened and when I was working, my husband and I would regularly stop by for a short visit on our way home. I need to build in more visits now that I'm not a regular downtowner anymore.

Ryan, I like your idea of lunch: I'll email you!
