I’m listening to you. I’ve got my hands folded, just so. I’m willing them to stay put, to not move about, to not gesture, to not reach out and grab you.
I’m trying to make sure my body language says that I understand, that I want to hear more. It’s hard to not laugh though, as you tell me how you think this place (this dry ugly place) is worth your time and your energy.
My face tries to betray me, I will it to remain neutral. I listen, I try, to understand.
But I can’t. This alien landscape hurts my heart. You need to come home with me, now. Come back to Kansas, Dorothy. Back to the land you know, that we know. Stop fooling yourself, the desert is not where you belong. Remember, there’s no place like home, this, this desert, it’s just a bad dream Dorothy…

(Yes this is another attempt at an inventive interpretation of one of the many black and white photos my husband has given me over the years, I hope you enjoyed my creative narrative)

ReplyDeleteExcellent plan. Loralee I hope you do this.
DeleteI guess Andrew better start hunting for more photos!
DeleteThis is a fun one, and I wonder if a remake of the Wizard of Oz, with a twist, is in order.
ReplyDeleteI certainly concur with luv2garden's comment.
Wouldn't that be fun! Instead of landing in OZ Dorothy lands in the Arizona desert....
DeleteFun interpretation, Loree. She does look rather composed, doesn't she?
ReplyDeleteSo composed!
DeleteThat's a perfect description of the expression on her face, Loree. (I also think she finds the chair she's sitting in and the glare of that intense sunlight uncomfortable.) Where did Andrew find this photograph? Surely it wasn't made into a postcard?!
ReplyDeleteNo just a loose photo. He used to find them in antique stores, but since we haven't been browsing like that for awhile he's been buying off Etsy.
DeleteBeen wondering what to do with some old photos that I can't quite bring myself to toss. Say the word and I will send them your way. You could certainly put them to good use.
