Wednesday Vignette, don't be afraid to use words

Signs with symbols instead of words are all well and good, when the symbols make sense. This one I saw in Paris was a head-scratcher. Don't climb a ladder to a cloud in a lightening-storm? Don't stand under a tree with bad pruning cuts in a lightening-storm?

  1. I suppose it means a tree is not a safe cover in a lighting storm, but if one has to stand and ponder, it might be too late...

  3. Barbra Streisand singing her hit "Don't Rain On My Parade" is not allowed beneath trees in this area? Rain and lightening must stay above chouds on poles? "Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me?" je suis confus.

  4. Ha! I wonder how many tourists were struck by lightning before city officials decided to post a sign? And how many debated the symbol before approving it?

  7. Textbook example of bad design. I hate restroom signs in restauranrts or clubs that are too clever for me to figure out.

  8. Ha! That poor, sick tree, with short, perpendicular branches and lightening and rain only in one spot. The funniest part of this post was your guesses about the sign's meaning, and the comments from others.

  9. So ... don't stand under the tree? Stand in the rain?

    1. Yes. I wonder how they feel about umbrellas?
