Inside the Amazon Spheres

My friend Steve recently visited the Amazon Spheres  — yes he stepped foot inside those fabulous buildings I was only able to photograph from the outside (here). But because he's a good friend he sent me a few photos, and gave me permission to share them. He also threw out this little tidbit "maybe I can organize something for your next visit" (OMG!). Stay tuned for that, but in the meantime enjoy these...

Nepenthes alata and ferns.

At first glance I thought these were candles.

That Bromeliad! And what the heck is that huge leaf on the left? A trick of the camera?

I wonder if there are little fish?

Love this look at the tall green wall.

But this one just might be the best-ever photo of it.

Finally, I had to include this image Steve took of the mechanicals at the top of one of the spheres.

Why? Because it reminded me of this scene from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory ...

  2. I thought at first that big green leaf wasn't real, that maybe it was ceramic or glass. But I think you can see it in the picture above it, top right near the concrete walkway. How did he get inside? Does he work there?

  3. Wow! Amazing space. I would always be late for whatever as I would have to stop and look at plants every time I was near them.

  4. I just listenend to a great interview with the horticulturist for the spheres - Episode 150 of "In Defense of Plants.": It was truly inspiring. I still wonder how electronics do in a planty place...

    1. Excellent! Thanks for the heads up. My podcast listening is spotty at best, but I will make time for this one.

  5. Everything is so lush! I hope they have a good team of devout gardeners caring for the space to keep it that way. I expect Amazon can afford that.

  9. So inspirational - I would love it if every work place had a green space. Imagine it!

  10. There are a lot of really drool-worthy plants in those domes. Hopefully I'll get to see inside one day, as well.

  12. That enormous green thing in the bromeliad photo might be Jeff Bezo's ego. ;^)
