This week's vignette was spotted on a walk. I thought the color-echo between the Manzanita bark and the copper sedge (I think?) was a brilliant idea. One that's only going to get better as the bark exfoliates and curls, like the sedge.
It was much better in person, but since you can't see it with your own eyes...well this is what you get. I just may copy, and you should too. You know, if you like this sort of thing...

Very nice combination and it picks up the rail in the background. I like orange sedges, it's not easy to find that rusty color in foliage.
ReplyDeleteSo true! Very difficult.
DeleteAnd once those sedges fill in a bit more -- oooh, it's going to be nice!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to say: I was excited about seeing some actual copper (metal), although this was nice too. :)
DeleteI'll work on the copper (metal) theme for a future post...just for you!
DeleteI love this too. Very much!
ReplyDeleteI love color echoes.
ReplyDeleteThat will be stunning once the bark develops more and the sedges fill in. You will have to keep you eye on it and update us.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh...now I need to remember where I saw it!
DeleteGreat find! Thanks for sharing it so we can all copy the idea!
ReplyDeleteThey do complement each other very well!
ReplyDeleteOh Yes! I like this combo very much! And the Carex is probably as drought tolerant as the manzanita.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! In my book, one can never go wrong with copper - there is just something about that color. Love it - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI think it took me a while to warm up to the dead sedges, partly because they look so much better in person. I have to admit, though, I do have one that is fairly brown, and I had a very hard time deciding if it had died over the winter or not. I think it is alive.... so I prefer the ones that shade toward red or copper. These look great!
ReplyDeleteYou've brought back a memory from when we fist tore out our lawn and planted the garden. I'd planted a few of the brown sedges and a neighbor (who clearly did not approve of the lawn removal) pointed at them and said "you planted dead grass, congratulations"....
DeleteBest laugh of my day, Loree! Thanks for the anecdote.
