Wednesday Vignette...some sort of tree voodoo?

This looks slightly less sinister than it did the day I spotted it, under grey skies and with the wound oozing tree blood. It's no secret I do not care for these trees – is someone practicing tree-voodoo for me?

  1. Garden voodoo or helpful tip? There are times when I'm working in the garden and need a pin to get a rose thorn or other splinter out of my finger... I should just stick a few into select trees around the yard!

    1. Seriously? Maybe instead you should just put one on your collar before you head out?

  2. Kinda creepy, even on a sunny day. I always find those trees lovely (I know: easy to say for one who need not contend with cleanup)

    1. Or how ugly they look in August when they're thirsty because they're not drought tolerant and they're planted out in a sea of hot asphalt....

  3. A little tree blood letting? Is this what they mean by pinnate leaf?

  4. Hahaha, this is funny, but it is also weird...It is the first time I see something like it.

  5. Assuming this was a neighbor's tree? Very strange. It does make you wonder about the story behind it. Hmmmm...

    1. Nope, my tree! And yes...I want to know the backstory...

  6. Is the safety pin giant size or just the photo angle? That makes all the difference in interpretation to me. Of course, that means I am taking this all a bit too seriously!

    1. It's just the photo angle I think. I mean it is big...but not freakishly so.

  7. Decidedly odd. Maybe you should replace it with a bandage and see what happens.

    1. Ha! I wonder if it would stay attached in the rain...

  8. How odd... who would do that? I like Kris's idea with the bandaid!

  9. Is this tree in your garden or where? I always thought voodoo was practiced with straight pins, not safety pins, not that I really would know.

    1. My garden - the hellstrip. Maybe safety pins are a variation on the theme?
