The Blue Agave, a vignette

I had no plans to post for this Wednesday's Vignette meme, but walking through the garden after an early morning shower had me seeing the colors of this corner in a different way. The blue agave (unknown species, a "pup" gift from my Arizona brother years ago) simply had to have it's photo taken.

As always the Wednesday Vignete meme is hosted by Anna at Flutter & Hum.

  1. Some days the blue plants just grab you, don't they? Beautiful! (Your Tradescantia is so elongated!)

    1. I know isn't it!? (the Tradescantia) I don't know why, the others dotted around the garden aren't that way.

  2. LOL, your agave is media-obsessed.

It looks like Agave americana to me. Has it been hardy in the ground?

    1. I pull it out of that spot every fall and drop it into one of the veggie stock tanks in the drive (which are sans veggies over the winter), where it's done fine. The drainage in the ground there isn't sufficient for long term Agave happiness. Also - I can see why you would think A. americana but having seen his mother plant I don't think that's the case.

  3. Cute little guy. Looks nice with the purple of the Tradescantia. Congrats on the new plant-hauler, too.

    1. You know I long for the big monster Agaves of your climate, but I guess I'll settle for the cute little guys.

  8. The blue with that purple is beautiful! I like how you pulled an Evan and progressively zoomed in. :)

  9. A dusky blue hue always looks like a pop of color after a rainstorm. That one's a beauty.

    1. I wish I would have left my rain gauge out a little longer, it felt like we picked up quite a bit of rain here yesterday.

  10. Sweet agave and the purple Tradescantia is a beautiful companion. I may have to steal that idea.

  11. I love how the tradescantia sets off the agave...and, but for the thorns on the agave, it looks like it is trying to strangle it :-)
