The house is way up at the top of several colorful steps.
Peekaboo.
At the base of the steps are two metal cages painted lilac, one stands empty.
While the other one contains some rather robust wisteria—at least I think that's what it is.
Looking up the long sidewalk bordering the property's side.
I crossed the street to take this overall shot. Wondering about the property; the colors and the round glass lamp shades looked like something from a circus to me. Was there a connection?
Continuing the colorful theme...
Things looked a just little past their prime too, as though the one who conceived of it all was no longer able to care for it.
Well-pruned, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was (if I knew)...
These were all along the sidewalk, although some had been chipped away.
I've finally reached the top corner of the property. The tent above the garage reinforces the circus vibe.
And finally you can see the view.
Every circus tent needs lions, or well in this case foo dogs.
Once we were back at our hotel that evening I did a little online sleuthing hoping to learn more about this colorful house. First I found a story from February 2020 (with interior photos!) and then followed a link to a Windermere Realty listing showing that the 5,340 square foot, six bedroom, four bathroom home sold for $1,300,000. Wow.
Oh well, I didn't want to move to Hood River anyway...

That was interesting. The colors on the inside of the house work. 5000+ sqft house from 1917... very cool but the continual maintenance that's probably needed - wow.
ReplyDeleteRight? So much work...but then if you can afford a house like that I'm sure you can hire out all that needs to be done.
DeleteI love all the windows and the views. The colors are lovely but not really my style. And the gorge wind isn't either. But fun to look at for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat wind! It's bad enough here in NE PDX.
DeleteI love color but that's too much for me by a good stretch. Still, I expect it'd be a fun party venue. I can't help wondering what the owners' wardrobes looked like. I also wonder if the new owners intend to maintain the color scheme or "adjust" it.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely has party venue vibes. I thought it was an events facility not a provate home.
DeleteIt looks well cared for inside! I actually like the interior. And that Chihuly chandelier over the kitchen table is to die for! The other lighting is interesting too but the kitchen one is the best to me!
ReplyDeleteI would love a home with that many windows!
DeleteWhen I saw the colors on the outside, I thought Nepalese Himalayan village. Though a bit busy for me, I found the chandlers were very fun, the views spectacular and the glass room divine. (Especially for someone who need to overwinter a whole lot of plants).
ReplyDeleteOh yes...that glass room! I would be very happy with that.
DeleteWow, I would love to know more about the owners that came up with this decor, bet they are as interesting as the house is.
ReplyDeleteGood point!
DeleteFearless Decorating !
ReplyDeleteI thought of Keeyla...
DeleteIt definitely needs all the greenery around it to help tone down the colours a bit but I quite like it. Not something I would do but I appreciate it when people show they are not afraid to buck the norm and express themselves.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, gotta go with your vision.
DeleteI want that kitchen!
ReplyDeleteOh you should have it as I know you'd put it to good use.
DeleteThe pruned tree looks like an Acer dissectum
