Salmon River Trail moss (and a few lichen)...

Here we are, back on the banks of Oregon's Salmon River in late September. When Andrew asked me if I wanted to go with him I remember thinking about the rain we'd received and figuring the moss—which goes dormant when it's dry—was probably active again. So I said yes.

What I didn't realize was the moss may never go dormant here, it's thick, it's luxurious, and it's very photogenic! Please enjoy these green photos, if they convey even a tiny bit of the beauty I saw that day, well, then I know you'll be in awe...

Tomorrow I try your patience and take you back out on the trail to look at the mushrooms...

  1. Lovely and serene. I always think of moss as the forest's jewellery. Sometimes over the top but always beautiful.

    1. I see it more as the forests fluffy sweater...

  2. It's one of those all-too-rare places that has an other-worldly quality about it. The ninth photo had me catching my breath.

  3. Okay, I take it back about moss. In the right place it does look really cool, but in the wrong place (i.e. my lawn!) it is still a pain :)

  5. Green, glorious green. Nature is the best landscape architect ever. Miniature trees in photos 23 and 24 must also be moss... wow. It has a feeling of a jurassic park in the possible way.
    Mushrooms? bring it on.
