Wednesday Vignette, green on green foliage texture

For today's vignette, and the next two day's posts (providing I get my act together and add text to the photos I've uploaded) we're visiting Kris's garden in SoCal, Kris being the lady who blogs at Late to the Garden Party. This combination was one of several that jumped out when I visited her garden in December—and then again when editing my photos. First of all, there's the view, we cannot ignore the view. Frankly I don't know how she ever gets anything done in her garden with a view like this...

But really it's the foliage combination and the texture that I thought was so remarkable. Kris grows a mean patch of Acacia cognata 'Cousin Itt', the feathery foliage at the back. I love this plant so much, but it's not hardy up here in Portland's Zone 8. In front of the acacia is the blue/green foliage of Euphorbia rigida, I would have never dreamt these two plants could look so amazing together. Of course the California sun helps...

  1. I've been wondering when you were going to start posting about your visit to Kris's garden. I love this combo too. Her Cousin Itt's are so beautiful and lush, and they do make a great combo with that Euphorbia.

  2. Gorgeous! I love 'Cousin Itt'. It has such a rich feathery lushness. Very sad I can't grow it in North Seattle.

    1. I've tried it a few times in a container here, it's just a sad imitation of the real thing.

  3. It was a surprise this morning to open this post and see my own garden! 'Cousin Itt' IS remarkably happy here. Maybe Morticia Addams is hanging out around here too - that would account for my trouble getting roses to bloom.

  7. Oh wow - what a fun surprise! I don't think I knew that you went to see Kris and her fabulous garden! If I did, I had totally forgotten. Very cool.... I love the combo and I love Cousin Itt - it looks so marvelously soft and fluffy! I'm a little surprised by the combo as well. I wouldn't have expected that. As the wind is rustling through them, they both look like they could be growing under water.

    1. Under water with a view of the harbor, that works!

  8. Marvelous sense of wide-open space, yes. We don't have much of that anymore in So Cal, unfortunately. Lucky Kris!

The texture of the Agonis trunk is a good contrast with lush 'Itt'.
