On Christmas morning there was a strange plant under the Opuntia Christmas tree. At first, in the dim morning light, I wasn't sure what it was...
I could see there was a flower at the top, it looked a little like an Amaryllis.
There were flower buds, and odd leaves.
And the whole thing seemed to be growing out of a pot within the nursery pot.
How strange it was.
Of course once I turned the lights on I could see what it was.
And that my husband had had some fun with our Kate Blairstone wrapping paper.
The plant itself is pretty cool...
But the hybrid is a knock-out!

That was clever! I hope you left the flowers in place for the time being - there's plenty of time to channel your inner Morticia when the weather warms enough to move the plant outside.
ReplyDeleteThey did stay in place for a couple of days, then I potted the plant up for a IAVOM mantle display and they came off.
DeleteWhen I saw the first photo I knew something wasn't right, and thought maybe your creative husband had made the entire plant. But enhancing it with the wrapping paper was very clever. So fun!
ReplyDeleteHe's a clever one! I should have taken a photo with the rest of the gifts, it was cool how it belonged there.
DeleteNice gift and a fun way to brighten up the winter. He did a great job with that wrapping paper which is not easy with a cactus.
ReplyDeleteNot easy at all! I wonder if he got any spikes in his fingers?
DeleteWhat a neat gift and very clever.
ReplyDeleteHe's a clever one.
DeleteYou had me there for a second or two :-)
ReplyDeleteProbably about as long as he had me. Of course my "just woke up" brain is easily messed with.
DeleteThat is too cool!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! That Andrew is so creative!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to meet Andrew! I've been a fan since his art first appeared on the mantle!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice thing to say! Hopefully he'll make himself available and not just go hide out in the bookstores.
DeleteI knew Andrew was very clever, I didn't know he possessed such splendid scissor skills! He might be a keeper.
ReplyDeleteYou should see him work an x-acto knife!
DeleteNice enhancement, Andrew! The fun surprises of being married to an artist. :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed. You just never know...
DeleteYou gotta love a guy who embellishes so beautifully. What a doubly delightful treat.
ReplyDeleteHow crafty and thoughtful of Andrew. I can hardly wait to see his website, once its up and running.
ReplyDeleteYa...we need to get working on that...
