Wednesday Vignette, inspiration

Surely I'm not the only one who looks at these "round reducers" (so says the shelf tag at the orange big box) and sees shiny metal planters in the traditional shape?

Yes the bottom is open...but if you're placing them on soil rather than a hard surface, and don't plan to move them, then who cares? Perfect for an extremely cold hardy Agave that wants great drainage...

  1. I've never noticed those specifically, but I do occasionally make the rounds of the hardware store looking for things to plant in.

    1. I frequently walk the metal aisles and this was the first I'd seen them.

  2. You do have the eye for how to use an item in alternative ways. I would need them to get really dull before they'd work in my garden, however.

  3. Oooh - good one - thanks for sharing! Need to make it to the orange one - I always seem to go to the other big box store, which is closer to my house.

    1. I suppose it's closer to mine too, but if I head to the HD past IKEA then there are all sorts of shopping opportunities....

  5. I love walking around the big box and dreaming of ideas. Yesterday I saw some pretty cool plants at the big box too! Who knew!?!

  6. I'd certainly have seen them as planters. What in heck is a "round reducer" supposed to be used for? I guess I need to wander further than the plant section when my husband manages to haul me with him on one of his big box store trips.

    1. I have no idea what job a round reducer could perform!

  8. I completely saw shiny metal pots. Now I have to go look for those. I was just in a big box store looking for a sprinkler. Why don't I wander through the aisles with an eye to repurpose something......

  10. I've looked through the hardware aisle before for container material. I would try to find some way to add a bottom to them, though.

    1. I think they might sell metal "covers" that are a flat circle (used to "plug" a hole) that could fit in here as a bottom. Worth checking? Maybe Loree saw them...
