Wednesday Vignette, growing a plant within a plant

My potted Bocconia frutescens is always sending up a crop of seedlings in the container. They never really amount to anything, although that doesn't stop me from hoping they will. This one somehow managed to get itself inside an old branch. Hmm. I might have to give that one a little extra attention.

  2. This is funny and sweet. Does this pot resides in the greenhouse during the winter?

    1. No. It hangs out next to the back door until the temps are predicted to fall into the 20's, then it goes into the basement for the rest of winter. I've learned it can go dormant and then be fine in the spring.

  3. Cute! I wonder if it'll be able to survive there.

    1. I doubt it, but then again...anything is possible!

  4. I'm sure the seedlings think they're in the right place. I hope one or both survive.

    1. There are so many this year, and they're bigger than I remember then getting in the past. I can only imagine they're loving the rain.

  5. Amazing how seedlings find homes in the last places we would ever put them.

  6. Will that be a bocconia seedling as well, or something else?

    1. I remember seeing one (full grown - tree size!) at the SF Botanical Garden. I'm just happy to be able to keep my little plant happy.

  8. Hmm, meta Bocconia, or Matryoshka Bocconia? Ha. I read this after watching the latest SNL Spicer skit with the dolls.

    1. Clearly I need to catch up on my SNL...since I have no idea what you're talking about.

  9. Had to look Bocconia up - what awesome leaves! I hope your little seedling thrives in its chosen spot. How funny it should choose to grow inside another plant...

    1. Right? Although I doubt it chose, I think the seed just fell in there.

  10. I love it when plants grow together, like in a jungle or rainforest. This little one has rebelled about its potted parent.
