Flower Bomb — mobile flower boutique

I've posted a few things on my Facebook page about the idea of a mobile plant truck (like this), I love the idea of a carefully curated collection of plants that's out and about in the city...making scheduled stops and spreading green all around. So imagine my excitement when I was cruising down the street (having just stopped in Portland Nursery on Stark) and I saw this...

Well, actually I saw the front first.

I quickly parked the car and jumped out to take some pictures.

Outside there were a few plants...

And inside a lovely selection of cut stems!

And more plants.

The owner (Solara) was just unpacking a few things when I climbed inside.

Poor girl, to say I was excited is an understatement. I think my enthusiasm hit her a little hard. But she was extremely kind and agreed (a little hesitantly) to let me snap some photos.

Turns out she's been doing this since last May (I really need to get out more).

Once I got home and I looked her up on Instagram (where I got these borrowed images), her hesitation about my photos made sense. She's said something about just getting up and running for the season and not everything out yet. It was a very cold day with insane wind, so she didn't even have her awning open. Look how incredible it all is when she does have everything out...

She takes the show on the road too, here to the Portland Night Market — another thing I keep meaning to take part in.

And makes amazing (huge!) arrangements.

The Flower Bomb truck parks at the corner of Stark and SE 28th and Facebook is the place to find out what days the truck is open, or where it might have moved to if there's a special event happening somewhere.

Yay Portland, yay Flower Bomb!

  1. Fabulous. I love such innovation. There are food truck, of course, and I had seen a "boutique" truck that visited the west settle street fairs in the past few years. This is taking it to the next level. I prefer buying plants then outfits, so I think this is just delightful.

  2. Okay, I'm jealous again. You have SO many great nurseries (seemingly one per mile at least) and now you've got a mobile plant service too. Someone needs to tell Solara that there's a huge untapped market down south!

    1. Well one per mile may be a bit of an exaggeration....

  3. Good ideas have a way of springing up simultaneously once their time has come. This is great but I hope it does not dissuade you from considering doing something like this with Andrew. I have always been puzzled when shops are reluctant to have photos taken and blogs written. What better way to get the word out to potential customers?

    1. Oh Ricki I guess I didn't phrase that right. I think it was only because she was concerned her shop (truck) wasn't looking its best, because of the cold and insane wind. Not that she didn't want the PR, but she didn't want to look "half-baked". And thanks for the push to keep on thinking about my own truck.

  4. That is amazing. I think it would only work in a place like your area where gardening can go on all the time.

    1. Ha! This winter has certainly put a kibosh on that notion. Actually the day I stopped in was her first (or one of her first) open days for the season. She'd closed up shop for a few weeks as winter settled in.

  5. Wow. This is fabulous. I might have to leave home once in a while. But just the walk to the recycling bin this morning was freeeeezing. Cool shop. Thx

  6. How very cool! What a great idea, I hope she's doing well. I'm trying to figure out what the yellow stuff is on top of the cactus bowl. It looks like corn meal.

  8. Hello! May I use one of your photos in my blog, DearLiza.blog? I neglected to take a picture of Flower Bomb’s trucks when it was still operational and would like to include it in my story of Solara’s new storefront. Thanks, Judy Drueding
