Happy New Year! Happy new way of looking at our gardens, our world, ourselves. Of course you can keep the old ways too, but isn't it fun to see things shiny new and fresh?
This photo is one of a series that photographer Saxon Holt took last summer, of my summer-dry front garden. All the usual characters are there, but his way of photographing them has me thinking a little differently about things. For example, the trunk of the Styrax japonicus (Japanese snowbell) in the hellstrip looks AMAZING! If I didn't hate that tree, well, I'd almost love it. Here's to the New Year and to looking at things with fresh eyes now and then.

I was amazed at the different spots people stood to take photos of my garden last summer. Even when I've stood in the same location, I've always shot in the opposite direction. Quite a revelation isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteIndeed. For this shot he had to have been out in the street, something I've never done.
DeleteHappy New Year to you as well Lori! I am all up for looking at the garden with new eyes again and planning for Spring projects. The bark of both the Styrax and Mahonia are gorgeous. The colours and textures are vibrant. Always good to see your garden through someone else's eyes to get a whole new perspective.
ReplyDeleteArctostaphylos? (not mahonia) I love how in this shot the color of the bark and the house color relate to each other.
DeleteHappy New Year Loree! Do we dare expect some sort of normalcy for 2023 ?
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I don't even know what that means anymore...
DeleteIt's always useful to see one's garden through someone else's eyes. Happy new year Loree!
ReplyDeleteI want to come see your garden again!
DeleteHappy New Year! I look forward to another year of Danger Garden posts. This is an especially good photograph of a part of your front garden.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading Jeanette!
DeleteI first realized my garden will take on a new perspective after seeing photos of it taken by The Outlaw (in 2015). I find it fascinating and exciting!
ReplyDeleteI also realize you never (rarely?) photograph your hell strip. I think you should start loving that Japanese snowbell... it looks fantastic. Happy New Year!

Oh! I didn't remember that Peter visited your garden, and took photos. Now I am off to look for that post.
DeleteHappy New Year, Loree!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. Best wishes for a beautiful 2023!
