I caught this vignette out of the corner of my eye and I wasn't sure I was seeing it correctly. Surely that was just a leaf bent around the agave tip? Or maybe a stick? But no, a worm it was. An extra-large cutworm perhaps? On an agave no less, the nerve! It wasn't allowed to stay...

Gutsy cutworm! Due to our wet summer last year am expecting a plethora of the little devils this year, so have been saving toilet paper rolls to place around my seedlings. With the run on toilet paper saving enough has been challenging.
ReplyDeleteDo they work? (the toilet paper rolls)
DeleteYou bet!
DeleteWell, you can't really blame it for trying. Maybe it has discovered Agave sweeteners for its leafy concoctions? Glad you caught it before it did any damage, though.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to wondering just want sort of damage it would do.
DeleteMaybe he thought that dark pointed tip was another worm and went for a visit.
ReplyDeleteHa! They're so soft skinned I wonder if it might have impaled itself?
DeleteGutsy AND ambitious, I'd say!
ReplyDeleteI suppose you're right.
DeleteThis kind of a behavior will quickly get a worm to the bottom of a Tequila bottle.
ReplyDeleteHa! Or in a bird's belly.
