Wednesday Vignette; Cereus hildmannianus spiralis

Can you imagine what it must be like to be that big strapping Dracaena draco (dragon tree) and yet consistently be upstaged by that short curly guy in front? Must be difficult...

Cereus hildmannianus spiralis, I don't remember seeing one prior to my trip to Santa Barbara last April.

I kinda want to let go of a marble at the top and see if it spirals all the way around to the bottom.

  1. Well, I do hope I'm not the only one whose mind goes to the short and curly dirty place with that photo. It really needs a couple of little barrel cactus planted at its base.

    1. I intentionally did not go there, knowing that certainly someone else would. Glad it was you Alison, you've got a reputation to keep up!

  3. What a peculiar twist. Had I seen this anywhere else I'd assume Photoshop was involved. When would the pup at the base start spiraling?

  4. You are right! I couldn't take my eyes off of it and definitely wanted to play with marbles.

  5. I want to see the video of that marble spiraling down the cactus. An amazing sight in itself.

  6. LOL, what Alison said. What an awesome plant! Are there minis that can be overwintered in a sunroom?

  9. Very cool plant! I often wonder how and why something like this evolves - what are the advantages?
