Wednesday Vignette, rusty balls at Flicker Farm

I've been rather vocal about my dislike of art in the garden, just for ART's sake.

A pyramid of rusty balls in a mown field though, I like this.

  1. In the first photo, because of the shadow on the ground, it almost looks like the balls are floating in mid-air!

    1. I never would have seen it, but you're right. Thanks for sharing your excellent observation!

  2. I love Green Zebra's observation above!
When there is 1.3 acres to play with, there is plenty of room for ball!

    1. And with that much room you can make sure one vignette doesn't bleed into another. Something I struggle with in gardens that have a lot of "art".

  3. Oh, fun! I'm generally not big on garden art either, but I am a sucker for rusty things, and for metal in general. Found a great chrome ring the other week, which I just HAD to have. Silly me - what was I thinking?? I have no room for that! Still pondering what to do with it...

  4. I didn't realize until Green Zebra pointed it out, but yes! I think I must be the opposite of you, I'm not much for big monumental art in the garden, like this, or the pieces that were on display at the DBG, but I like little things that are almost like extra flowers. Or pretty much anything that has been repurposed.

    1. Another great observation, yes, I think we do gravitate toward opposite ends of the spectrum. Although I HATED (is there a way to put more emphasis on that? I ABSOLUTELY HATED) the pieces on display at the DBG. And I love me a re-purposed piece of metal.

  5. You do seem to have a thing for metal... and placed close to spiky things!

  6. I like geometric shapes better than figures as art in the garden so this is up my alley (oops, no pun intended). The rusty-colored balls provide a nice color echo to the dark foliage of the tree in the distance too.

    1. I think that's it. I'm drawn to geometric shapes rather than human or animal figures...or other shapes with identity.

  7. Where can I get these?
