In a couple of years, this is going to be amazing...

Back in the days before it became all rain, all the time, here in Western Oregon, we occasionally had blue skies. They were wonderful, even better when they're sharing space with a bunch of Agaves...

I discovered this mass of Agave goodness the day we drove out to meet some friends for wine tasting. They're planted in the berm alongside Blooming Junction Nursery in Cornelius, Oregon.

There are at least 17 Agave ovatifolia...

And so many others!

It gets a little colder out in Cornelius, but of course everything they've planted should be fine as long as the drainage is sufficient.

It will be interesting to watch and see how they do, in time this could be Agave madness!

I do wonder what the 16 Seasons are though...

Because they were closed for the season when I was there...

  1. The agaves and grasses, it already looks amazing. Maybe next time they'll be open. Oh that gate, it's common here to put agaves or yucca up there.

    1. I can picture that (agave or yucca), missed opportunity!

  2. Grace told me she doesn't think four seasons is sufficient in describing our climate and that she believes there are 16 distinct seasons here. I've been meaning to get together with her and learn what they all are, but haven't done that yet.

    1. The mind reels! That means every three and a quarter weeks we're in a new season? I'd love to hear more, you should interview her about this for the HPSO bulletin.

  3. I didn't remember your previous visit so looked at that post again -- they have some beautiful display gardens, and this agave "fence" will just be another soon. I love nurseries that have the space for lots of plantings!

    1. This one definitely has space. It's only been open a relatively short while, it will be interesting to watch it mature.

  4. 16 seasons?? I'd love to hear the names of them all. March in my area could be it's own season called 'Meh'. ;)

    1. Some would say that March around here should be called "is it over yet?"

  5. Interesting mystery about 16 seasons and the far out agave planting. Hope you get to go back when the place is open.

  6. Sixteen seasons! I wonder what the distinctions are? I'm hard-pressed to claim more than 2 here, although I suppose we could say we have balmy summer, tolerable summer, intolerable summer...We used to have rainy winter but there's little sign of that thus far.

    1. You should indeed. Just wait until the season when they're open again.

  8. Drove by there yesterday on our way to Carlton and was surprised to see them closed for the season. Starkey's remains open.
