Wednesday Vignette, autumn from my front porch

I shared this photo yesterday on Instagram and love it so much I thought it was worth sharing here as well. Thank you Anna/Flutter & Hum for the excuse to focus on one-off, spontaneous, photos every Wednesday...

  1. Will you put a "sit here for best view" sign on your porch so you can share this loveliness with passersby?

Those glochids are a bit too close... making me nervous! (Says the guy who's taken lots of macro shots of his own Opuntia)

    1. Probably not, I'm still a little paranoid since having a container stolen from off the front of my garage last week. Not real keen on inviting strangers up into the garden.

  2. Some day I hope my itsy bitsy clumps of that Amsonia will look like this in the autumn! I don't know why the only place I can find it is online in little 3 1/2-inch pots. No local nurseries sell it in gallons. That's a wonderful fall picture.

    1. That's odd Alison. Mine came from Xera (gallons, but thin) and I've seen nice heavy ones from Blooming Junction. In fact I could have sworn I saw some at City People's last weekend...maybe give them a call?

    2. Or wait...maybe it was Sky. I hit them both.

  3. Only you could have such a wild combination of plants. Love it.

    1. Are you calling me odd? (in which case I say thank you)

  4. Beautiful! Love the contrast too, from the tactile to not so tactile.

  5. Any idea where I can purchase Amsonia (hubrichtii?) from? Thanks, Halina

    1. Where are you located Halina? Here are the plant lust nurseries who've offered it:

  8. I've never seen that plant combination before, but I love it! The light was great for your photo, too!

    1. It was that wonderful light that made me stop and take notice.

  9. Why does Opuntia seem so appropo for the season? The combo is just right for these gorgeous fall days we've had, that's for sure!

  13. Amsonia is such a stunner, and I love it in combination with that Opuntia. You have a great eye, Loree, and your photos are always an inspiration. I heard about your stolen planter. I totally know that awful feeling - you feel so violated. Some people suck... At least, if anyone tries to dig out that Amsonia, the Opuntia is standing guard - hopefully shooting glochids at 'em.

    1. That's right! You lost a table, that took some work. I've heard a theory that these things happen on trash night (when we've all taken our bins to the curb) by chance was that when your table went missing?

  14. Nope - it wasn't even close to the curb. It was a mean, entitled human. The table was hidden behind a large Fatsia and another dense shrub about a foot and a half above the sidewalk. And now, in the empty corner - the only place that would have awarded whomever a peek inside - is now Jim Porter, ready to kick some ass. Too late, but still...
