The Planthunter is..."an online magazine devoted to celebrating plants and the varied ways humans interact with them"
As with most of my obscure internet obsessions I'm not quite sure how I found them, however I'm always thrilled to see their newsletter in my inbox..."content at The Planthunter is organised around monthly issues, each with a different content theme (Check out some of our past issues here). Each week we publish around 3-5 stories relating to the issue theme, and every Wednesday we send out an email newsletter."
Past issue themes (which you'll see if you click on that link above, or here) include: The ROAD TRIP Issue, The CRAFT Issue, The DECAY Issue, The SCENT Issue, The MEDICINE Issue and The DESIGN Issue.
It's the "July 2015 | Road Trip | Week 3" newsletter that finally has me writing about them (Week 4 just hit my inbox and I haven't yet had a chance to read it!). The story Interview: Ralph Durr has me feeling right there with Alina Golovachenko as she chats with Ralph, who is quite the character. Her photos are dreamy...
Then there's Georgie Hawke's visit to Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca, a place I hope to visit, someday (photo Georgie Hawke from The Planthunter)...
The stories shared on The Planthunter aren't terribly long. They're more like those brief conversations that keep you thinking for awhile. So are you interested? Sign up here.

Took a quick look at some back issues, and then signed up! Thanks for telling us about it. Looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it!
DeleteIt looks interesting! thanks for telling us! I must check it out. It is australian as I can see.
ReplyDeleteI should have mentioned the fact that it's Australian, since that makes it even better!
DeleteI remember hearing about this from someone, possibly you, and then promptly forgot because I didn't subscribe right then. Not making that mistake again. I just read the article about the garden of Brian and Trish Perkins and I'm green with envy. They can grow both Japanese maples AND sansevieria outside! What an enviable climate.
ReplyDeleteThat's the way it works for me too, which is why as soon as I thought "I really should write about this" I did it. Wait and forget.
DeleteI knew about this but I never subscribed. Will definitely do so now!
ReplyDeleteThe Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca is high on my list as well--as is the Oaxaca area in general. Hopefully soon!
Andrew keeps talking about a vacation to Mexico...
DeleteI'm glad you put "do you read it?" in the subject line, or I might have thought that "The Planthunter" was a new reality TV show...
ReplyDeleteLooks great! (The show would probably be great too though...)
Oh yes, the show would be fabulous. As long as the producers didn't have to introduce some lame element of competition.
DeleteWonderful! I'd never heard of it. I signed up.
ReplyDeleteYay! Hope you enjoy it.
DeleteGlad to know about this. Now I know what I'll be doing this weekend besides watering.
ReplyDeleteAlways good to have a little reading stored up for relaxation time!
DeleteI LOVE the Planthunter.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you're where I head of it?
DeleteI hesitate to add more computer time to my life, but your pitch was irresistible.
ReplyDeleteJust think of it as a magazine, without the paper.
DeleteThanks for this. Planthunter is new to me but looks fantastic. Just subscribed!
ReplyDeleteYay!
DeleteI DO read it, and I do not even remember either how I came across it. I have definitely enjoyed quite a few of the articles, and learned a lot, too.
ReplyDeletewow, i really think i need an impenetrable cacti wall at my house!
ReplyDeleteI just signed up.
