General Bubba Crush

After visiting The San Diego Botanic Garden I made a quick stop just down the street, at Sunshine Gardens.

I would like to see this nursery at the height of the season, I bet it's amazing. My visit fell towards the end of December and even though there were empty areas there was still plenty to see.

I noticed signs around the nursery that referred to something called "Bubba Crush"...what was this Bubba Crush I wondered?

Ah! That's Bubba, hanging out in his bunker.

He looks like a nice fellow.

He's even (sort of) smiling for his close-up.

Cats and dogs are common nursery residents, I don't think I've ever seen a nursery tortoise before!

  1. A tortoise does make a strange nursery denizen. Was the rest of the nursery as unexpected?

    1. To be honest I kind of blew through quickly as I was running late to meet up with Andrew. It looked to have a nice selection of larger succulents, and (when in season) seemed to be a source for lots of edibles.

    1. I'm sorry Gerhard I don't, which is very unlike me. Must have been the hunger kicking in. By now I know enough to pack snacks when visiting a garden, why didn't I?

  5. That second picture with all of the firesticks, wow! Great color. Looks like a nice selection of plants. Looks like Bubba is a well - loved fixture of this nursery.

    1. Thanks, I loved that shot too. Makes the "firestick" name really look apt.

    1. I bet he's a hit with all the kids who get drug (dragged?) to the nursery with their parents.

  7. Haha, this is so funny! I love tortoises and this one lives in an interesting place! I suppose they don´t want to let Bubba wander by himself through the nursery...he might bite some precious plant.

    1. Or get a little too much attention from some of the kids. Can't you just see a couple of them decided to try and ride on his back?
