Nice green roof!

Portland is known as a green city. Both for our environmental practices as well as our rain-fueled, mossy-green, garden culture. Turns out we've also got some pretty fabulous green roofs...

What you don't see it? Look a little closer...

Nice...

  1. What, no signs in this water wise, pollinator friendly, pesticide free, organic, carbon footprint reducing, air purifying urban green space?

    1. Oh I'm sure they're on the window of the office facing the green roof. If you're standing inside looking out at this urban green space that's when you see them.

  3. I can't believe this! That is the penthouse where I had my graphic design office for many years, shared with architects who still are in the space. We had quite a few more plants back then.

    1. Ah too funny! Were you the gardener in residence?

    2. It was before the gardening bug truly bit but we all agreed that plants were a must and took turns watering them.

Hilarious! Yet I know some "custom" "green" builders (green-washers) who might do the same on their "high end" commercial or residential projects, then be on a tour or get an award!

  7. I hope they made sure the roof can take the weight before they installed all that soil and plant material.

  9. Well, I suppose it's a start...I used to work in a 72-story building in downtown LA and, on the rare occasions I visited the top floor, all I saw were helicopter pads on the roofs of the shorter buildings.

    1. This view is particularly bleak isn't it? There are some lovely green roofs here in Portland, I should seek them out.
