Just up the street from us is a family that has discovered the joys of vegetable gardening.
I wish I would have had my camera with me to capture the moments I’ve seen the little girls out digging with their shovels. For them proper gardening attire looks something like a princess costume along with rubber boots. They're adorable.
Of course by now the garden is a little past its prime, but that’s all part of the autumn charm.
These little cans appeared to go weeks without water, yet all of a sudden there was a flower.
Further up the street, on another corner, I spotted these monsters.
I wonder what they’ll do with them?
Holy Toledo! Now those are some pumpkins!!!!! I love the sentiments of the kids gardening...mine are the same....costumes and boots - but here in Texas - cowboy boots! We are also at the costumes to the grocery store and costumes to the park stage....cherishing it all...

I love when I see Spiderman at the grocery store...such a thing never would have been allowed to happen when I was a kid.

It's so heartening to see kids enjoying gardening. I bet those monster squash are headed for a harvest display - or maybe a contest!

ReplyDeleteAndrew and I kept wondering if the little gardeners were going to be the lucky ones to harvest their pumpkin or if some meschievious passers by might beat them to it. My heart skipped a beat the other day when it was gone, but thankfully I saw it had moved to their front porch.
DeleteHow sweet! I love that you consider the fading garden part of the charm of your neighborhood. Those big pumpkins are curious, maybe they're to decorate a school festival.

DeletePumpkin contests are big at local fairs around here. Perhaps there's a blue ribbon in somebody's future.
ReplyDeleteThe owners of that truck are also pretty big holiday decorators. I keep expecting (hoping) to see a display in their front yard.

ReplyDeleteOne word keeps me from growing pumpkins...space. The vines get so big and ramblely (I doubt that's a word but I'm using it anyway). I would love to though.

DeleteThose pumpkins are whoppers!! Funny enough I was just thinking of big pumpkins recently, as there will be an autumn harvest show in London this coming Tuesday. Not exactly a plant show as such but we're curious what will be there. Lots of pumpkins I can imagine!

DeleteI'm thinking of the year I took my son and his friend (they were about 8) to the pumpkin patch and told them they could have the biggest pumpkin they could get to the car. Inventive kids: they found a guy with a tractor, and their haul barely fit in the trunk!
