Enough time had passed since
Ricki’s comment on this post made mention of the fabric cactus in the window of
Anthropologie that I had forgotten all about them. So when I recently stepped inside the store and saw this…
I was quite pleasantly surprised!
And that was just the beginning, they were everywhere…
Not all of them had spikes, but the ones that did looked extra ferocious!
In some places real and fabric plants were intermixed.
In others they were just painted on.
For a fleeting moment I had plans to go home and paint Saguaros on our bedroom wall and make a forest of fabric cactus.
But the moment passed.
I do wish I could have taken this chunky garden stool home with me, although at $149 it stayed behind.
Just up the block the succulent celebration continued, as
West Elm had a large space devoted to selling actual plants.
I wonder how many they sell in a typical week? I’d be worried about them staying healthy for long, so far from a decent light source. That window on the right faces east and there is a tall building across the street that must block any possible sunlight.
Unfortunately most of them had only the helpful label of ‘succulent collection’…
Still, due to the addiction, I was tempted by this blooming Aloe.
But I left with nothing but the pictures.
Oh wow! I need to go to the mall, Anthropologie usually does the same thing in every store. The mall here also has the best gardens and landscaping.

DeleteGreat photos - I fell in love with them at the Vancouver store a few weeks ago and wish I brought my camera. Gotta love us plant nerds clamoring over the decor!

DeleteI really like those stuffed fake cactus! Pretty cool! And I probably would have left with a succulent or two. Unless they were really pricey!!!

DeleteDid it give you some ideas for decorating the inside of your house? I wonder if our local one has the same. Must pop by there to take a look. Isn't it annoying that they rarely label those small cactus. I think that whomever grows them must have no idea. Fun posting.
ReplyDeleteI think maybe they just mass grow and sell them and don't even make an attempt to label them, that would increase the cost and cut into the profit!
DeleteI do want plants painted on my walls, maybe the dining room? I've been after the artist husband to do it for years but the 60 hr a week job keeps getting in the way.
I used to pop in and admire the new decor at both Anthro and West Elm, when I worked close by. Thanks for posting your lovely pics. It was fun to see and the fabric cactus's are really extraordinary! Cheers, Jenni

DeleteSo glad you got over there before they switched out their displays at Anthropologie...and took so may swell photos. Now I must bustle on over to check out West Elm.
