The winners of my “blog birthday book giveaway” are…
Ryan Miller is the winner of the The Naturescaping Workbook (and a “shoe-in” since he was the only one who wanted it!).
My Garden, the City and Me goes to Jane, the MulchMaid.
And Terrie will be learning about Fruit Trees in Small Spaces.
Terrie since I have no way to get a hold of you I hope you are reading this! Please email me at spiky plants at gmail dot com so I can find out how to get the book to you. If I don't hear from you by Tuesday the 20th (the first day of Spring!) then the book will go to the "runner up"...thanks everyone for playing along!
(pretty pictures because I saw the gorgeous shrub on a walk yesterday and wanted to share, I have no idea what it is…)
That is a gorgeous shrub, and I'm pretty sure it's a white flowering currant. The flowers are usually pink or red. It's a PNW native. Congrats to all the winners!
ReplyDeleteI saw another one yesterday just a few blocks away. It's overall form was even better. Now I've got to be sure to check and see what it looks like after the blooms fade!
DeleteWow, that shrub is a knockout! Is it aromatic? Alison says it's a currant, so I'm guessing edible berries follow? I'm feeling zone envy creeping up again ...
ReplyDeleteI don't recall a scent, and I actually stood there quite awhile looking at it. But then again I don't detect a scent to witch-hazel either so maybe I'm missing it.
DeleteWell done to all, and love the flowers. At the moment I am really into my white flowers, and they look great!
ReplyDeleteI know many folks dismiss the Lilac as a trash shrub but looking at these (and thinking of white flowers) has me longing for the Lilacs I left behind at my garden in Spokane.
DeleteYeah that looks like a white flowered Ribes sanguineum. Maybe the cultivar 'White Icicle'. Really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the thorough i.d. Kaveh!
DeleteThank you, Loree! I'm so excited to win the book! I concur with the others who said your pretty shrub was Ribes sanguineum, and, like Kaveh, I thought it might be 'White Icicle'.
ReplyDeleteYay, I'm glad you're excited! I'll email you to make arrangements for delivery....
DeleteThat is a pretty bloom. I have not been paying attention. Missed your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteDarn...you might have been a winner!
DeleteWe have those shrubs all over the place around here as native understory. I was sure it was an elderberry (red berries in fall) but at the HPSO annual meeting yesterday Bruce Wakefield had brought a branch and labeled it: Oregon native 'Indian Plum', or Oemleria cerasiformus. I will be watching this space with interest to see what others think.
ReplyDeleteSo how did I manage to miss both you AND the branch at the meeting?
DeleteI looked around for you. It was a big crowd, though.
DeleteLoree, your lovely shrub is today's Botany Photo of the Day from the UBC:
