Finally I’m on the ball and I’ve got photos for Foliage-Follow up! Let’s see that only took….oh….6 months. Yikes.
This is actually the second half of a really long post that I started
last Thursday so
click on back there for the full show. And for those of you that are paying attention…yes I am starting with the same plant, Verbascum bombyciferum 'Arctic Summer,’. I took these pictures at dusk and I loved the silver/blue quality to them, had to share. Don’t worry this is the only repeat plant from the last foliage post.
Acacia pravissima (Oven’s Wattle), love the alternating knife or fin-like leaves.

Alchemilla mollis (Lady’s Mantle)
Mangave 'Macho Mocha'
Melianthus major (Honey Bush)
Pachypodium lamerei Madagascar Palm with it’s wild wig of green leaves.
Cyperus papyrus (my have-to-have every year ‘annual’ – this year I bought two, a tall and a dwarf. LOVE THEM.
Pistia stratiotes (Water Lettuce)
Ricinus communis (Castor bean), still short….I want BIG bad leaves!
Syneilesis aconitifolia (Shredded Umbrella Plant)
Tetrapanax papyrifer (Rice-paper plant), the newest plant (went in the ground last fall)…small but getting bigger.
And the oldest, I believe it’s officially reached tree proportions.

ReplyDeleteI love that purple yucca and wonder why we never see it in Austin. But I'm really in mourning for your Verbascum bombyciferum 'Arctic Summer' since you told me it just croaked in your heat wave. What a gorgeous plant, but maybe it really wants what the name says? An Artic summer?
ReplyDeleteYour Acacia pravissima looks a lot like the knife-leaf acacia (A. cultriformis) that we commonly grow in Austin. Unfortunately they proved not hardy for the winter temps we got last winter. Mine died along with many others.
What are those curly q's on the agave geminiflora? It's not the first time I've seen it but I always wonder what that is.

ReplyDeleteOooh, we have a lot of the same plants! (Although, okay, most of my warmer-climate lovers are in pots, and I'm guessing yours are not!) I think my favorite is that verbascum... LOVE the fuzzy silver leaves, and the two views of it you showed. :)

Pam, the purple leaf yucca is pretty rare around here too, I've only seen it at 3 nurseries and 2 of the 3 were VERY expensive. Luckily I bought at the 3rd. I still have hope for the Verbascum, I'm watering it and waiting for it too cool down before I completely declare it a goner. So far it's still a limp pile though. I've got the Acacia in a container, just in case!
PGG, the curly q's are the filaments on the edges of the spiky leaves. Like a yucca sometimes has.
