Whodda thought?
Reminds me of the time…(ok not really but this is a transition)…that I was strolling along at another local nursery and BOOM! I almost tripped over a rocket launcher.
Or some strange compost mixer…
Or a feeder for really tall chicken. What is this thing?
And because everything should happen in 3’s (right?) now I am at the garden center in one of those big box stores and what’s this?
Pre-planted succulent trays, or as they’re calling them, garden tiles. For $14.17 (really, how do they come up with these prices?) for a good size flat of mixed sedum.
Nice! If you want one…they’re at Lowes. I want one, but I didn’t get one. Nor did I get a hanging cucumber plant. But I didn’t want one of those.

Those cucumbers look like they could give you a good whack!
ReplyDeleteI find the pendant cucumbers just plain weird...and the tiles look like they belong on an eco-roof, but Lowe's pushing the envelope? Priceless. And please do let us know if you ascertain the purpose of the cylindrical contraption. My guess is exercise equipment for gerbils.
ReplyDeleteAt least you did not get hit on the head with a ham like Paula Dean!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog! Keep up the good work.
Oh man, I'm so depressed when Big Box Bureaucracies do something cool. Really toys with my elitist side.
ReplyDeleteK in Napa
What a cuke! Not sure about the rocket/chicken feeder thingy. Like the idea of the sedum tiles...can make that myself...nice post.
ReplyDeleteSedum trays for fourteen bucks! We might have to take a trip to Lowes. That's a sweet deal. The cucumber baskets are strange. In a cool sort of way.
ReplyDeleteOw! Those looked sizable! And they are prickly. I hope you are okay! Garden tiles, huh. How are they supposed to be utilized? Put straight on top of the dirt, or are the plants to be released to freedom and disorder? Curiouser and curiouser. I'm sure they got the idea from some creative/indie gardener like you!
ReplyDeleteHi Loree, Hanging cucumbers, who'd a thunk? I guess this is one way to keep the slugs off them.
ReplyDeleteThe rocket launcher looks like quite a conversation piece.
I like the idea of the sedum tile but in musing about it for a minute I think the real crux of the matter is marketing a product that makes it easy for non-gardeners to use, don't you think? Basically, it's a gimmick. But some gimmicks are better than others...
Enjoying this cooler weather? I sure am.
I laughed and I laughed. Then I remembered I was in public, and stopped laughing. You got whacked by a cucumber! LMAO!
ReplyDeleteCrazy rubber chicken launcher you got there!
well it wouldn't be Danger Garden w/out some danger right? ;)
ReplyDeleteNicole, you are so right! These were not wimpy cukes!
ReplyDeletericki, I like your guess. Except it was so big that the size of the gerbils that would use it kind of scares me.
Mary Ann, you have a good point. I would chose a cuke over a ham any day. And thanks for the kind words!
ks, sorry to get your elitist undies in a twist (if I can say that to you...)
Darla, I thought the same thing about the tiles (make them myself), and then I thought about the amount of work that would take to get the sedum so integrated. I think I would rather pay $14.17.
Megan, I would really be surprised to find out you guys shop at Lowes!
Karen, no injuries sustained thank you (other than to my pride). They wanted you to cut the tile into smaller pieces and plant in a sort of staggered checkerboard (and thank you for the compliment).
Grace, oh you just made me think...maybe the rocket launcher is actually a slug chopper launcher? Now that would be cool! Yes to the cooler weather! As long as we still get a little heat, now and then.
Laura, did you catch anyone looking at you funny?
Mary, most excellent point you have there.
Sedum tiles 9 dollars at home depot. I cut them to fit and plant in home made pots
Deletebought one of the tiles @ home depot....going to use it @ the bottom of a street sign that's just a bit too close to the street to fit a mower past easily...need to wait a couple weeks though...
