My garden sprinkler is a slug love hotel

I snapped this shot on October 5th. I'd positioned the sprinkler to deep-water a few shrubs but it was spraying in an odd manner, almost as though something had plugged part of the opening. Turns out something had...

Gross, right? I had to resort to tweezers to pull it out, it didn't end so well for the slug.

Just the other day I grabbed the sprinkler and discovered this...

Slug eggs!

After cleaning them off I attached the sprinkler and turned on the water. You know where this is going right?

AGAIN!

This one came out in a single tug of the tweezers, a little worse for the wear though. I wonder how many more are in there?

  1. Gross is right. It amazes me that with the ongoing drought I was plagued by slugs all season. They devastated my cabbage, glads, beans. They are imports hitching a ride on perennials grown in warmer climes but they have adapted too well to my cold one.

    1. Slugs seem to do just fine in the colder, drier climate of my native Spokane, at least at my moms where she's kind enough to supply them with lots to eat.

    1. Because of what they do to plants? Or just the look of them?

    1. Ha! Ya, I hadn't thought of your issues and the lack of a slug plug.

  4. If the slugs were a tad smarter they could create an efficient distribution system for their young... baby slugs being jettisoned to all corners!

    1. I wonder how long it took them to work their way in there?
