Wednesday Vignette; when will we know?

Andrew and I are back from four days spent in Hood River, Oregon. It was the closest thing to a real vacation that we've had this year. It was peaceful... lots of nature and very little politics. Well, except for the dueling yard signs. Once you get out of the (liberally-minded) Portland metro area all bets are off and there were plenty of endorsements for both candidates. I kept an informal count going and I think the Biden/Harris team ended up ahead by one. Damn.

We stopped at the Bonneville Dam/Tanner Creek area on our way home, I was taken by this large moss-covered rock and snapped a quick photo, then I looked closely at the background.
U.S. Government. Who is the U.S. Government? Us, the people? Do we have hope? As I write it's Tuesday night, election day. When will we know who our next president will be? Will I delete this post before it goes live on Wednesday morning? Will I be inspired to edit, like I did back in 2016? Or will the unknown spill into the days ahead as we wait for the official word on who will lead our nation?
I kept a stiff upper lip into the election night results, that is until I read these words: "I don’t want to wake up on Wednesday feeling like I did 4 years ago" damn. Then I teared up.

  1. I know this sentiment is not something people may want to hear, but (I believe) all things happen for a reason. In the moment we may not "see" clearly what that reason is, but over time it becomes apparent. Even the anger and frustration that has resulted in the challenges we all have been faced with these past 6 months (6 MONTHS! Sheesh!!) are necessary to propel us forward in our spiritual growth.

I find this happens in my personal life and can only sense it happens on a mundane scale, as well.

The single question we must individually ask ourselves is how we want to face challenges. There's just so much we can do and sometimes we just have to let things "be" - hard and horrific as that sounds. Sometimes shit just has to let loose (and all bets are off with Mars currently Retrograde in Aries).

What we CAN do and what we DO have control over is ourselves and how we react to what's going around us. Without fear and dread. What's that old saying? "Hope Springs Eternal".

    Blessed Be, fellow Gardeners.

  2. Expecting that we wouldn't have definitive results for days, if not longer, my husband and I managed to avoid all election coverage yesterday. I tuned in for a time this morning but I'm about to tune out again. Patience isn't one of my strong suits but there doesn't seem to be an option at the moment. I'm headed out to the garden but my fingers remained crossed that the outcome, whenever it arrives, will be better than it was in 2016.

    1. And yet, even if the outcome is as we hoped for, the fact it is this close is just baffling (I could have used a stronger word, but...)

  3. I cried last night, too. But things are looking up as the day heats up to the nineties again.

  4. This election is way so much tougher than I had hoped. I believed Biden would win by a landslide because I believe in the values of our country and Democratic leaders. I would have said so much more except that I read M's note. His/her comments reminded me of my younger self when I studied with Maharishi 50 years ago. We do have to really listen and figure out what we are missing in the Trump supporter's message. There is more anger in our population that Trump has fed with his lies than any of us really understood. This is an awakening moment for the USA. We need to figure out how the hell we can make the changes needed to bring our beloved country to a point when everyone feels included and listened to. We have to understand this anger, because until we do, I'm afraid the Trump's of our country will be successful in changing our US into a place where we no longer want to live. I guess what I am saying is that maybe we have been so strong in our beliefs that we haven't been listening to our neighbors enough. My heart is pretty broken we have missed out on the depth of the anger in our country.

    1. Oh Sheila, yes. But I have to admit there's a part of me that fears some of what he's appealed to isn't something that we can listen to and learn from. The ugliness of hate.

  5. Fingers crossed. Can't imagine another 4 years of the same.

  6. I won't go blue or red, I'll just say this is what I want in a president:

Someone who cares about our environment/climate change.
Someone who isn't owned or corrupted by corporate money.
Someone who will support healthcare for all so people like my kids don't end up with a $50,000 hospital bill without the means to pay it.
Someone who is more invested in the US than in China, Russia, or any other country.
Someone who has a moral compass.
Would I like that "someone" to be female for a change? Yes, but it's not mandatory.
Will this ever happen in my lifetime?

    1. Perfect. How can anyone say that isn't what they want? I just don't understand.

  7. Excellent comments above. Better than anything i can say. I love the mossy rock--here the rocks are always dry and dusty.

  8. I want the person Anonymous describes. Doubtful this person appears in my lifetime left, but I have hope he/she will appear in my children's and grandchildren's lifetimes. I'd like to see the same qualities in our Legislators also! Too much to ask? Hope not; they are, after all, supposed to be the People's representatives!

  9. A few friends gathered around a Zoom election watch, wine in hand, last night. I'm astounded it is as close as it is. It looks like we'll have a new president, but good grief - we have to own that it's this close. That's alarming.

  11. We had a fancy dinner with champagne on Tuesday to celebrate that the day was finally here. We were afraid to hold off celebrating. Spent yesterday in the garden so I could ignore things as much as possible. No matter who wins it is clear that half the country hates/doesn't understand the other half.

    1. Smart move, as far as the celebration timing. And yes, crystal clear.
